Band Adjustment needed?

03 3500 4x4 QC/LB with 94K miles. When going from 1st to second, smooth acceleration results in engine reving and rpm following MPH up to 3K (RPM) and 30 MPH. With load (4. 5K Boat Trailer) need to be level ground in order to shift into 2nd to be completed. No CEL or ABS lites. Thought Gov Sensor/Solenoid but was told bt Dodge Transmission rep, bad seals and need transmission pulled. Sanity check anyone?? Thank you, Chris:confused:

You have checked fluid level, hot idle in neutral on level ground, to make sure it is the good range?

The 1-2 shift is front band apply. Check front band adjustment and run pressure test to pin point the problem.

I would check band adjustment then replace the gov solenoid and transducer. If that doesn't work then run the pressure tests to see where the issue is. More than likely is a front servo leak and/or adjustment. Could be seals in the direct clutch but you would normally have issues with the 2-3 not the 1-2 shift.

Front clutch has no pressure applied in 1st and 2nd.

I would go for the solenoid and sensor on the valve body before pulling the trans!!

There is no better place to trouble shoot a trans than in the truck!!!

It will shift to 2nd and hold? If not look at that. Are you sure it is not skipping 2nd and going to 3rd?

Fox,

Interesting as the Carl Burger Dodge Trans guy said, "oh looks like a bad seal, a leak and its in the front if its from 1st to 2nd" and when asked about solenoid and sensor he said it wouldn't solve the problem but your opinion is in line with others I have received except from the dealer guy. Makes me very concerned.

I will see what they come back with this afternoon.

Thank you,

Chris
