Shift Hangs Between 2nd and 3rd

Looking at buying an 04' 2500 4x4 auto. When shifting betwen 2nd and 3rd it feels like it's slipping and wont shift till you let off the pedal and the rpms drop to a certain point. Other than that it shifts and runs great. I'm thinking governor pressure solenoid and transducer are bad?

mine did that at factory, and got worse a few months ago. it was a hard shift, and delayed like.
replaced and adjust the bands and it was a little better, then now 4 weeks latte, 2-3K miles, i just realized the shifting and most of the hang up is gone. i am happy now!! hope to get 50K miles more before a rebuild.

Try manually shifting through the gears and see what happens. . Stop vehicle place in N,then drop right down into 1st when RPMs are above 2100 shift into 2nd, then Drive. If it shifts as commanded its most likely the sensors/Solenoid. Remember when Buying used you are generally buying someone Problems.

Could be the gov pressure solenoid and\or transducer. It could be an out of adjustment front band. Worse, it could the front band and\or the direct clutch pack is bad. Those were the symptoms mine started out with when the directs were done.



Its hard to tell with those symptoms exactly what the problem so approach with care.
