Just finished up replacing the heater core on my 99 quad cab. As part of the project, I dropped the steering column down and rested it on the seat. Buttoned everything back up and noticed that when I put it in gear, the gear selector would stay in Park. Truck shifts fine, but the shift indicator is stuck in Park. I obviously boogered something up.

Who knows how to fix this?

Thanks!

Randy

IIRC there is a spring and string that attaches between the steering column and the instrument cluster. The column has a plastic piece that rotates when you move the gear selector. This pulls on the spring/string assembly that is attached to the gear indicator in the instrument cluster. There is also an adjuster wheel to fine tune the indicator position. Hopefully the pieces just came undone and did not break - as the last time I went to the dealer the column plastic piece is only serviced as part of the complete steering column assembly. Then there are the wrecking yards - a screw and a twist - it's out...
