could somebody explain to me the difference between a shift kit and a reprogramming kit. My '03 has the 47RE trans and want to improve the sloppy shifts and perhaps allow me to add some power. I see TRANSGO has both kits. Can somebody hep me out? Thanks in advance.

The two types of kits are for different things, gas opposed to Diesel, tune up opposed to fixes. The shift kits for the diesels contain more parts and more fixes to address the heavy use and higher TQ. You'll want the TFOD-Diesel shift kit.

Transgo has two options for my truck, the first is this shift kit.

The second is for this reprogramming kit. I wouldn't think twice if was a gas powered pickup. Since I'm dealing with a diesel and transgo is offering both kits that seem to do the same thing,WTF? Any trans guys out there can explain this a bit better? I believe both kits are for diesel. Thanks

Why not just call and speak to someone at Transgo?

The first is the diesel specific upgrade to address the weaknesses and problems in the diesel trans.

The second is a reprogramming kit that is more generic and aimed towards performance and all out racing on a range of transmissions and aimed more for the gas engines. It will work on a diesel setup but thats not what its intended use is.

Like I said before, you want the TFOD-Diesel kit.

I will see if I can locate a TFOD-Diesel kit locally. Can you adjust for shift firmness? I'm tired of the sloppy shifts, but I don't want a shift that throws me into the back seat either. Thanks for the info

Yes, there should be a couple options for shift firmness. Not familiar with this kit so not sure what they are. A couple don'ts; don't put in the spring for longer upshifts, the OEM one is good on these trucks, if it gives you an option don't drill for firmer lockup, that gets to be violent at the right times.
