New owner rear end / front end oil change?

I have a 6. 7 with the 6spd manual and when towing normally down shift at max torque point( 1400 rpm) but now when I shift it seems like the engine doesn't have any power at that rpm. If I shift a lot higher (2500 rpm) it seems to have more power and pulls the hills better. That doesn't seem right.

Anybody have any ideas on this.

My '07 C&C has 3:73 gears and a 6spd. manual. I do not go below 1600 rpm and find if you stay in the 2000 rpm range it performs the best under load.
