Shifter problem

Posted this about an hour ago and it didn't seem to work, so I'll try again... The detents for 2nd, drive and neutral seem to have blended into one big no-mans land on my 93 auto shifter. I checked in my FSM and it looks like the detents are in the valve body. Anybody ever had this problem or know how to correct it? Thanks, John.

I have that condition on my D350 between neutral and drive. A transmission shop told me there were basically little spring loaded ball bearing type detents that give the positive stops between positions. They said it wasn't hard to fix, but I don't know if they are in the valve body or not.



The way I understand it(I may be wrong here), the danger running with no positive stops is that if it started slipping from one position to another, say form drive to 2nd, fluid will start being routed partially to the valving for 2nd, meaning pressure is being lost from "drive", possibly allowing a slippage condition to develop that could cause some damage. But I am certainly no auto transmission expert -- how about it, you guys that know?

I would check the linkage down near the transmission, the pivots are made of nylon or similar plastic. With age they crack and fall out, resulting in all kinds of slack/mushiness. Not sure if they are available at the dealer or where to find them.
