Ken, you on meds this morning or what? LOL! Actually what I'm getting at, is it possible for a stock shifter to "wear out"?

there are a 3 plastic type pieces inside the shifter assembly that could wear out, but i think the trans would be near or at rebuild time when they wear out

I was thinking of pricing a replacement shifter(stock) from the dealer and try to bend it a little moving it towards the left and back just a bit ,, not sure what one costs,,,does anyone know? i figured I don't want to bend mine and something go wrong and then be in a bind or hurry to get another.

It doesn't take much "bend" to move them. I bent mine using a tubing bender... it worked well...

Well, I do have 172k on the original shifter assembly, starting to wonder if thats not "part" of my problem recently. Have a new one on the way, hopefully will be here Moday before I have to make another Oklahoma run, going to the Port tonight to fetch another can, wish me luck guys! :rolleyes:Nick, I recognize the cup piece, where the heck do the others go?

the round disc is a spring washer [centers the shifter when out of gear] the other 2 are the pivot bushings for the cross shaft in the shifter assembly

I have an 04, but my dad's 99 is the same...

I took it out... if you lift the boot, it screws onto the shift arm that is part of the transmission...

Once out, it is trial and error... I bent it over a good 3 inches... it is much more ergonomical...
