I have owned several Brush Bandit chippers powered by the 4 cylinder B engine. They run at 2500 RPM all day long, much of that at full load. The chipper will reach its fatigue life long before you have to worry about the engine.

Yes, these same engines, while spec'd somewhat different, but basically the same bearings, cranks, pistons, etc, all run in Case IH agricultural tractors. They're rated up to 250hp, I believe, while the 6. 7s now go to 300hp. They're governed around 2500rpm, and run up around 2100 all day long at full to near full load pulling plows and running equipment. It's the harshest environment you can imagine, with dusty, stagnent air permeating all around. And they'll run 10-15k hours without overhaul, which equivilates to around 1 million or more miles. The injection systems are another story entirely, but we won't get into that.....

had to rebuild my nv5600 at 350,000mi due to pilot bearing failure, tow miles at least 60%,my engine has never been over 2500rpm,my shifts any where from1500 to 2400. have pulled 20,000lbs,as long as it will accelerate i pull it.

When not towing I shift around 2200-2400 no load. Towing my trailer I shift around 2800-2900 which is right at the top of the HP/TQ curve. It usually puts me right at 2000RPM for the next gear.
