Shipping a truck?

I found a truck I'm looking at down in Texas. A plane ticket is going to cost me $800 (!!), so I've started looking into shipping options - what should I expect to pay to have a truck hauled up to Ohio from Texas?

Someone like D. A. S. (Dependable Auto Shipping) would do it for $1000 more or less. Some dealers who have their own trucks might do it for $800-900. But $1000 is in the range I'd say.

I had a car shipped from PA to WA and it was 850. A truck might be more. If you want I have the name of a great shipper. He was responsive and on time! He contracts out with many of the online shippers and he also does his own work.

When I was looking (mainly on EBay) a fixed $$$$ amount was listed for various cities or $1 per mile.

I hadn't even thought of that! Man, I feel like a moron - they've always got commercials on TV saying "fly out of Dayton, it's cheaper. " They've got 'em for $300 there, too! And that's only about ten minutes farther away from me than the Cincinnati airport . Thanks, man.

Okay, I just checked cheaptickets.com and found tickets for $143 apiece out of Dayton airport. :--)

Looks like I'll be flying after all, if they still have this truck next week!

Add, to the cost of the plane ticket, any expected overnight stays if you drive it home. And add in the fuel cost, food cost as well as your time you have to spend driving instead of doing other things. Time is money .

Good point. If I get this truck, I'll be taking someone down with me (two tickets), and we'll drive straight through all the way back. Probably a couple meal stops in there for the 14-hour drive .

From what I've seen around my place... Dodge Diesels aren't as popular as they are in some places. You could look for years on lots around the area and only see a couple once in a great while. For me I had to go out of state to get what I was looking for.



And... if you go to ebay to look for Ram Diesels... they only come from three places. Texas, Texas and Texas.

The truck is in Dallas. The reason I'm looking at a Texas truck is that even accounting for ticket / shipping costs, TX prices are way better than midwest prices. Everything I see within a couple hundred miles of me is at least 10-15% higher for the equivalent truck .

$1. 00 - $1. 25/ loaded mile is what I charge for tractors, I would think trucks would be about the same. Good luck what ever you do!

got a flight out of Cincinnati on the 4th for the 6th for 163 total price on travelocity
