my truck is way over due for shocks. I have read lots of threads about shocks but most of you guys have 4wd.

I have a 2wd, I run empty 90% of the time, and tow a 10,000 lb 5th the other 10%.

I don't think I need "off road" shocks.

What would you guys put on your 2wd?
I was checking out bilsteen, but there are a little pricy (unless you know of a better price)

I'm using Monroe Sensitracs. Very happy with them.

I'm using the Rancho 9000s on my '95 2wd. I run empty most of the time, and the ride is much improved. I have not tried a really heavy load yet.

I'm using the Rancho 9000 in cab adjustable shocks ... great for adjusting the firmness on the fly. They made a real difference in rear end bounce while towing.

I'm installing the Edelbrock IAS this weekend. It's the only shock of its kind (and patented). They "know" the difference between the axle going up and the frame going down.

They dampen the unsprung weight very little while providing much more dampening on the sprung weight.

Result is really smooth over bumps and really stiff in the corners -- plus no bounce.

This is based on riding in a buddy's Grand Cherokee after he added these shocks.

I'll report on my results in a 2500 Ram early next week.

TowPro, Just installed Rancho RS9000's all around on my 95 4x4. So far they are great. Started out dialing in #3 on the front and #1 for rear. With these settings the rear was stiffer than the oem shocks and the front about the same. I then set the front to #4 and had a nice improvement over the oem ride. The real test will be next week when I load my 3300 pound camper on the back and crank up the rear shocks to #5. I'll let you know!

Installed my Edelbrock IAS shocks last weekend. My impressions are that these are excellent shocks, HUGE improvement in the ride and a "pretty good" improvement in handling.

However, if you tow something heavy or especially if you carry a high-profile camper, these probably won't be stiff enough for you. They're terrific for running empty or towing a light trailer and they have an excellent ride but they're not as stiff as the 9000s on the higher settings. The up side is that you don't sacrifice ride quality for the added control you get.

TowPro -- I just re-read your first post: Since you're empty most of the time and only pull 10K when you do tow (about the same as me on both counts), I'd highly, HIGHLY recommend the Edelbrock IAS shocks. Especially since you're in a 4x2 -- you've got less un-sprung weight than I do so you'll get a little more benefit from the inertia valve.

Thanks for the advice everybody, I finally talked to somebody who sells several versions of shocks, and decided on the Bilsteins. All 4 shipped to the door for $195. 00

I will give a test report in time. Should have them on after the 4th, and will be bringing my camper home from the mountains on July 24

Just came back from a 750 mile trip with the slide in camper and new Rancho 9000's. I tried most of the adjustment possibilities and found that they can ride quite hard on the higher adjustments (3-5). They are much better than stock as far as handling and maybe slightly better at controling sway. I was hoping for better sway control, but to get much of a difference the ride is very hard. Maybe I'll try to find urethane bushings for the front sway bar (they came with the back).

I have a product that will help sway! That is
just one of the many improvements it makes by
stabilizing the rear suspension. It also
helps axle wrap and wheel hop. I'm anxious
for the guys with the hopped up trucks to try
it. I submitted an add under POTENTIAL
BUSINESS 6-14. I am waiting for it to appear.
Check it out when it does.

Tow,
Interested in your ride. I heard on this board that the Bill's rode rougher than stock. I chose SensaTracs and just finished a trip to Yellowstone. REALLY BAD ROADS! The Monroes took that annoying rear end chop out of my ride. Must say that this is the best bucks I have spent to get a better ride. What I can't remember is if I was happy with the original ride and the shocks just wore out at 34K or if the Monroes are better than stock. I'm happy anyway!
