Will be replacing my shocks soon and was wondering if anyone had any preferences and why. Thanks, J

Tried Ranch RS 5000 on my 95. They wore out real quick. I think they were not for a Dodge/Cummins. Probably for a half ton. I use Monroe now. Been great. Don't know what I'll use next time because I'm considering a lift.

Have had the 9000's for about a year, very pleased with them because they are adjustable. Makes the empty ride much more enjoyable. bg

Rancho 9000's.
Have had them on '96 for over a year and am very pleased. IMO, don't need the in-cab controller unless you're rich and lazy; takes about a minute to adjust all four.

Salt? Never even crossed my mind, good point. New Mexico = mud, but no salt. When you turn the adjuster knob it feels like there's some kind of rubber gasket in there. I suppose Rancho could shed some light on it. Don't mfrs. subject those things to corrosion resistance testing, i. e. , salt sprays and such?

Yes, I'm sure they do... BUT like anything else. All the testing in the world doesn't equate to what all of us combined put our trucks through. #ad

Thanks for all the input. J

I had the Rancho 5000's on the 95 & they were too stiff for me. Must be getting old. #ad
I'm going for the 9000's when it's time.

The posts on the Edlebrock IAS said they look cheap & they are also too stiff.

I have Super Comp 9000 shocks on mine, they seem to ride better than the rancho 5000s I had on my F**D. I have seen alot of problems with the adjustable ranchos 9000 having the valve stick after not that many miles.

So far on the Web, Nat. Tire & Wheel seems to have the best price on RS-9000 @ $61ea. + shipping. One guy got them for $49 w/no shipping or tax on a special. Has anyone seen a better deal than the $61?

I have had about every brand of shock out there on my 4x4's and I have had nothing but failures out of Rancho 5000's and 9000's. Since 1993 I've been running Heckethorn shocks and have had no problems at all.

I currently have the Heckethorn Nitro 9000's on my Dodge and have been pleased with the way that they can control a heavy Behemoth such as mine on and off road.

I got my 9000s for $49@ with no shipping. I think they're $54 now with $5 for all 4. I can't find the site I ordered them from, but you may be able to if you do a thread search on shocks or Ranchos.

I noticed a difference right away and am very glad I got them.

I have to agree with the Rancho 9000 guys. Put'em on my 4x4 and have been pleased. No problems, easy to adjust ('cept for the fronts, I got fat hands) and the empty ride is FAR better than stock. Got mine from Hotrod.com. Priced around $50. 00 each plus minimal shipping.

Good luck with your choice

I put KYB monotube shocks on my 98 at 14K miles. Now at 65K, and they're as good as new. (At least I can't yet detect if they've loosened up any. ) They might not be as solid as the Rancho or Bilstein shocks, but they yield a nice-enough ride. And they *last* a long time.

Notice the 'monotube'. The twin-tube shocks are much less long-lived.

Go with the advice from one who knows: Ted Jannetty. He recommends Monroe Sensa-Trac - from experience! Buy from "carparts.com" F#37782, R#37781 $35 each. I'm ordering mine Tuesday.

I REALLY like my Edelbrock IAS shocks! I purchased a set of these JUST after they were released for sale (for the 2500 4x4 QC) in the Summer of '98. I believe that was at about the 3k mile mark. At 30. 5k miles later, I would still purchase the same shocks! And for anyone that knows me, that doesn't happen too often.

J,I put Rancho 9k's on at 14k and now at 40k
I feel they are a little warn out. I do live in rough road Chicago. I might try the KYB's
Fest3er suggested or Bilsten next.
