Every,I repeat, every time I exit my truck I get the #$%@* shocked out of me when I touch the door. I don't mean just a little shock, this is one nasty pop!... . anyone else run into this??... any ideas on how to fix?... . any help will be much appreciated. .

this is going to sound stupid... ... spray the soluton on the upholstery and wipe off?..... any ideas whats causing so much static build up?

When exiting the truck make sure you first place a finger on the door latch post or some other frame grounded exposed metal and then slide away across your seat to get out. Any static electricity is painlessly and gradually discharged through you finger touching grounded metal. Works EVERYTIME for me. Be careful about this if you every use a gas pump to get a can of gas. Another reason I ALWAYS discharge myself this way.

go to an autoparts store and buy one of those old grounding straps people used to put on thier car bumpers. fasten it to something metallic (like the frame) and allow it to drag under the truck. If you pick somewhere near the middle of the truck, it shouldn't be to easy to see.

Dave

ps. sometimes they had an orange stripe on them, just spray paint it flat black

Oh, as far as why its doing it, check your engine to frame ground strap.

Yes: Just spray on the upholstery lightly and let it dry.

I have never had this problem but I will bet ya five bucks that it works. :D

That happens to me all the time and was starting to wonder if it was just me or happend to anyone else, well know I know. Thanks for the advice rfrazier Ill try it next time.

More than welcome Justin. You can also use a key to touch grounded metal after you exit the truck the spark exits the key and not your finger. BUT every once in awhile a large static build up will cause a zap due to arching between the key and your fingers. I just do like I said in the first post and now it is habit whenever I get out of ANY vehicle.

No that the weather has changed in Texas and we have less humidity it happens to my pretty much every time, too. I've learned to put my palm across the thin edge of the door to discharge myself. I can feel a small shock, but nothing like a zap. My guess it has something to do with rubbing your shoes around on the carpet while driving, and not from seat-butt contact. It's a freaky experience, but not dangerous unless you are around a lot of fuel fumes. I've heard that static electrcity charges can apprach 50,000 volts.

Hmmm what about if I deliver Oxy and Acetyline cylinders:D ? I guess those bottles are sealed tight and in the bed so I dont think it will be that much of a problem.

Sounds like your problem is more of a torpedo problem. I once worked for a Quik-Trip convenience store and heard stories of the cylinders falling over and the nozzles breaking off. Was told that they could go through a cinderblock wall.

I just about fried my ear this way...

I slid out of my truck the other day with my cell phone earbud in my ear. I got shocked in my ear all the way out the door!

LOL thanks for posting this. i thought something was wrong with my truck that i keep getting zapped EVERYTIME i get out of my truck. i was afraid to post it cuz if this doesnt happen to anyone else id feel like a moron :D

I haven't tried this, but it should work. Instead of spraying a fabric softener solution onto your seat, try wiping it down with one of those dryer sheets. They are supposed to prevent static cling.

Has nothing to do with the static zap but

Yeah luckuly I have only heard storys to. I did however have a big O2 bottle slide out the back of my ranger(bed was to small to hold the bottle and cart so I was stupid and left the talegate down) and land in the middle of the road this summer. Luckuly i slide straight out and landed flat on its side and not on the cap. Nedless to say I have not done that again.

Well guys... my '99 has done this since new. Tried the grounding strap but it did nothing for static although it did prompt a lot of people to beep and tell me something is dragging. So... . what works for me is ... send my spouse out of the cab first, plug my ears for the reaction, then get out myself. Haven't tried static guard stuff.

Only felt it once it's usually to humid here for much static build up. Most of the time it is the tires and MICHELIN seems the worse especially in Honda cars.
