I know this has been asked many times before and I am sorry to have to ask it again but here goes.

What is the best brand and model of shocks for my 2001 RAM 2500.

PLEASE don't reply with any info on Rancho shocks. I've been that route and they are nothing more than junk and they don't honor the warranty.

I normally run empty but I do carry a slide-in camper several times a year. The camper is big and heavy.

I also pull an enclosed motorcycle trailer with a big Harley on occassion.

Thanks for any info.

Good to see your still around,

On to your shock question...

I have had the Edelbrock Performer IAS series of shocks on my 98 Quad for about 50,000 miles. I run empty all the time and only on one occasion have I had a trailer hanging on the back. These shocks have performed flawlessly on all the roads and miles I have driven. When I did get a chance to tow with them the only thought I had was on how well of a job they did. No excessive bounce,no bottoming out,and with the trailer on the back with my sons 93 Intrepid aboard, the truck was as stable as one could ever want.

I am very satisified with them and would reccomend them to anyone . If you want to drive it with them on to see what they ride like let me know. I'd be more than happy to drive out and meet you to do that... ... ... . Andy

Not to add insult to injury... .

Les Schwab makes a monotube called an RMX. I had them on my 02 for a long time (40K plus miles) and the guy I sold it to has had them on for 25K or so... . they still run strong.

They are a tad stiffer than a Bilstein... and like it when they have to deal with a load.

I will replace mine on my 95 with them too. Schwabs say they are lifetime guaranteed... . but your results may vary.

Just got off the phone with Off Road Warehouse about new Bilstein shocks for my truck. Regular price is $65 per shock and free shipping. With TDR discount price is $58 per shock but what they give they promptly take away by charging $15 shipping. Total cost savings with TDR discount after paying shipping is $13. 00. I think I would rather pay more and buy local for that modest amount of discount. Frankly, I was irritated with the call because they advertise the cost difference without disclosing the additional expense of shipping using the TDR discount. I hate gimmick sales tricks. Why not provide free shipping on the TDR discount and just admit that the cost difference is $3. 25 per shock rather than making it look like a $7. 00 cost difference per shock. Venting over.

A friend of mine just bought 4 Bilsteins for his X-Terra from eshocks.com and got free shipping. They were 65. 00 for shocks on our trucks.

I have had the Edelbrock Performer IAS shocks on for 65k. Had to change the front twice. Not that big a deal because they would send me the new ones first then I would send them the old ones back. I could tell a big difference from stock. I'm going with the Bilstein 5100s next. My old 93' Z71 had over 125k HARD miles and the stock Bilstein shocks and they still worked fine. I think you would be happy with one or the other.

You local Autozone carries Bilstein shocks, $60 a pop for our trucks. After my local sales tax it's only $5 more than ordering them online and I get them faster :)
