I HAVE A 04. 5 4X4 2500 DODGE DIESEL WITH 55000 MILES , I WENT DOWN A REAL BUMPY ROAD THE OTHER DAY AND GOT MY FIRST TASTE OF THE " DEATH WOBBLE " EVERYTHING SEEMS TO BE TIGHT AND OK - MY SHOCKS ARE THE FACTORY ONES - PAINTED RED - THEY CAME WITH THE TOW PACKAGE WHEN I BOUGHT THE TRUCK - IT HAS A LEVEL FIT ON IT AND A REAR 2" BLOCK WITH 35" BFG TIRES - WHAT SHOCKS ARE THE BEST ON A BUDGET ? AND WHERE IS THE BEST PLACE TO BUY THEM ?

The most reports that I see are for the Bilstein products. I hear the silver and black are their best items. I plan on putting them on my '06 when the time comes. Doesn't Geno's sell Bilstein's? Sorry I couldn't be more of a help.

Bilsteins does carry shocks for our trucks.

The stock ones are the blue and Yellow.

If yours is lifted, I think they also have some for yours as well.

Had the yellow and blue Bilstein's on my 2001 Dodge, they sucked. They were just about as good as shoving a 2x4 between the axle and the frame.
I'm looking for shocks again on my 06 Dually. Any recommendations ?

Just put Bilstein 5100's on the front of mine. They are a major improvement,still firm but not as harsh on rough roads. Got mine from Genos.

These are the silver and black model.

I like my 9000X's. They handle really well. I can adjust them for load, which is a major bonus. I keep the front cranked up to 7 which helps support the CTD, and 2 in back. If I'm towing, I crank the back to 5 or 8.



There's no comparison to the stockers, which don't even rate in my opinion.

Just installed skyjacker shocks and steering damper on my truck last night. Also installed skyjacker front leveling springs. (they were cheeper than the blocks) The shocks i installed are nitrogen instead of the regular hydraulic. They ride the same in the winter and summer meaning that the temperature does not affect them as does the hydraulic. So far i love them. Don't know much about them except that they are made in mexico like the Ranchos whiich sux, but whatever. I bought them for $45 a piece!!!!!!! The name of the shop was Roadrunner Performance in Avenel NJ. I actually found them on Ranchos website. Hope this helps.

well had the tsb 22-005-06 done at the dealer - had no problem with them because of the lift and the size ot the tires - the only thing that didn't get done was the front end wasn't line up - they said because of the small lift and bigger tires that there was somekind of special setup to have the front end lined up and they didn;t have the formula ? sounds bs to me >>>> town fair tire and the monky's over there seem to get ti done right and always seems fine when i drive it afterwards - ANY SUGGESTIONS ?

I can tell you that the silver/black E5-6681 and E5-6647 shocks from Genos were a huge disappointment. After all the raving about how great Bilsteins are, I notice little difference from the stock shocks they replaced. Not the smartest $320 spent.



The best shocks I have had to date were Rancho 9000 (on a different truck). Imo they were the best because they could be adjusted to suit my taste rather than having to settle for what a shock engineer thinks is the best compromise for a broad range of vehicle configurations and driving styles.

That's a bummer, I am either empty or have 2000 lbs in the bed so was looking for a shock that would know to stiffen up when its compressed more, like this one yet there is no application for my truck.



I want to keep it simple without having to change adjustments but the Rancho XL looks pretty good.

I used to have the Edelbrock Performer IAS shocks and was pretty pleased with them. When I put the 2-inch leveling kit on the front of my truck, I switched to the Bilstein 5100's because Edelbrock doesn't have a shock for a 2-inch lifted front. I have been pretty pleased with the Bilstein's as well. Got mine from Bilstein Shocks at AllShocks.com - Home. They may be a tad cheaper than Geno's.

This just seemed odd with all the good reviews and some not so good so I did a little more digging and found that not everyone run the same Bilstein.



I spoke with a tech support guy for a while today at Bilstein covering all sorts of scenario's with our trucks. The part number you listed is correct for the application however its the 5100 series which is more of a universal shock that can work with other manufactures lift kits and also non lifted models. It's a good choice with the popular level kits but on our trucks.

It has speed sensitive dampening for acceptable unloaded conditions.



The other one "Their HD model" also has speed sensitive dampening for acceptable unloaded conditions but where it shines over the 5100 is loaded conditions due to its more heavy dampening. They recommend the HD for trucks that see weight in the bed while the 5100 is fine for empty and or lifted trucks.



I thought I would share this info for others reading up and possibly it may be why some like them and some don't.

Hey Matt, what shocks did you end up putting on your truck and do you like them?? I really like the idea of a 2. 75" dia. shock, particularly for our heavy front ends, but have not been too fond of Ranchos in the past. I also see that now Edelbrock is making a VS-3 ht also looks pretty good. Whaddya think??

All i can say is i love my 5100's. They are stiff but you can feel what is going on with the suspension more vs the stockers, and less sway. :-laf

I did Bilstein HD's, not the 5100's. I was worried when taking off my stockers cuz they felt good off the truck, dampening and compression seemed good and possibly even stiffer than the new ones when compressing by hand but the ride proved otherwise.



Ride feels more plush on the little stutter bumps and on the harder hits it feels as though the shock senses the rapid movement and stiffens up for more control.

This must be their digressive piston technology.

I think on some big dips at speed I was hitting the bump stops in the front as I would get a violent jar type of hit but not any longer now, that same dip at speed is still a whoop in the road feel but its more of a bump than a "what the heck was that" kind of hit.



I decided against an adjustable shock cuz I don't see myself crawling under there when I unhook the RV for a day or two and then have to reset again when towing.

I have not towed with them yet, probably not till spring now.



I had narrowed my selection to either these or the KYB Mono-Max both of which employ a piston speed type of technology for a variable ride as needed.

The ride improvement was worth the expense IMO.

Geno's has them too.
