Shocks with a Lift?

Hey all-



I ran into a 4x4 shop out here today, kinda just playing around to see what the cost of making my truck even nastier than it already is, and I ran into a bit of a conundrum. My plan is to put a lift in my truck someday, and when I got to talking to the man there about a 4 1/2" Skyjacker, he looked in the Rancho guide and said that they don't make a Rancho 9000 to fit any lift at all for our trucks! I was a bit shocked.



So we looked at Pro Comp, a new company that also makes an adjustable shock, and their catalog doesn't even mention Dodge trucks at all. So I'm left a little dejected. Anybody have any ideas? I'm pretty excited about the prospect of lifting my beast and putting some bigger tires on it, but I also wanted a shock to make the rear end a little softer when I'm out there playing around off road, or even when I'm not running loaded.

Well I have a Skyjacker 4. 5" lift and just looked into the same issue as it's time to replace the shocks. As you mentioned, Rancho 9000's or Pro-Comp don't make them for this application and neither does Bilstein. So I bought another set of Skyjacker Nitro's which in tandem with the Skyjacker coil and leaf springs rides a good deal better than stock. Oh well, can't win them all

I am sure they make rs 9000s that will fit that application. i just wrote a long post with all sorts of info that got eaten by the spell checker.





Any way, You have a number of options. i would call skyjacker and get the specs neccessary for that kit. You can then match that to a rancho spec sheet. One option is to use http://www.jksmfg.com/ converters to put dual eb1 style shocks. Those are the bushing at both end type as found on the rear of our trucks. i believe then any shock that fits the rear of a 4. 5inch lifted truck will also go on the fron making it easier and cheaper than finding front shocks with the threaded stud on top. what I would do is use bilstein F4-BE6-6249-H0 shocks in the front stock location and put rs9000s on the dual shock mounts that come with the skyjacker kit and the rs9000s in the rear. That I would think would be the best of both worlds.



That set up with 37 12. 5 17 wheels and tires would be awesome

ReggieRam. I too have just gone through this. I called Rancho tech support and they only cover up to 3" of lift. I did not check into Pro comp, but Bilstein has new shocks, not yet advertised, in their 5100 series. The fronts are p/n BE56646-H5 and the rears are p/n BE56647-H5. These aren't the blue and yellow ones, they are zinc.

I have to say, I have enjoyed my Skyjacker kit, but if I had to do it all over again, FabTech would be the choice.

Rancho has just come out with extended length shocks for lifted trucks, but only RS5000's at this time. Extended RS9000's are to be out sometime in late August. Also, Bilstein makes extended length shocks in the 5100 series as Eric said, and they are now available zinc plated with black boots instead of the familiar yellow with blue boots. -Glen
