Where would be the best price on the Rancho 9000 shocks in So Cal? Trying to stiffen up the truck to accomodate the weight of my 34' fifth wheel. I do have air bags but want to do something more. Hopefully this will help.

I think you'll be amazed at the difference the Rancho 9000's will make when pulling your 5ver. Our 2002 3500 with the stock shocks would bounce so badly, both front and rear, that it would make me carsick when I was driving. :( The Rancho 9000's, set on 4 front and 5 rear, stopped all of that! :) A side benefit is that, when not towing, settings of 3 front and 2 rear make this thing ride much better than stock. :D

9000's

SS, I looked alot a few months back when I bought mine. I got them at www.4wheelparts.com If you find them any cheaper somewhere else, call them anyway as they will price match and usually beat any deal you find. Look on the net as there are alot of vendors outhere.

Hotrod-off road had the best price going when I was looking for these. I called 4wheelparts with the total price quoted by Hotrod-offroad and they did the deal for 5 dollars less than Hotrod-off road.

i travel florida to indiana and back once per month and i feel like my ride is way to stiff with the stock shocks. will the rancho 9000's be a softer ride?

how do you adjust these?

i thought i saw some of these rancho 9000's on ebay and they were bright red. i'm not 18 anymore and i don't need to show off my frappin shocks. are there other colors?

thanks.

scott.

Scott, the shocks are white and you can choose the color of the boots. They have a little knob on the bottom of the shock for the settings, the fronts are kind of a pain in that you reach through the spring coils to get at the knobs, but it is not bad at all. I have not changed settings on the fronts in a long time. They can ride really soft if you want it to, and can be harder than hard too. Don't let the color stop you from a great ride, paint them black if it bothers you. Hope this helps.

I would paint them not matter what color you are looking for. When I was researching shocks, the number one complaint (if you can call it a complaint) I heard about Rancho shocks is that they rust rather quickly. I painted mine black and they still look new two years later.

thanks for the info. do you have to have special tools for this job? looks like the shock is inside of a spring on the front. i haven't looked at the back yet. thanks. scott.

I forgot to mention that I have them on my 93, 4wheelparts has a big sale in March, I don't know if your buying them right away, but I bought them during there sale and they installled them free. I would check with them, I know it was an easier install than 94 and up, because of the front springs. Great riding shock, 5 way adjustable as well, just dial them soft or stiff. :)

Scott, you don't really need any special tools, just normal hand tools are fine. If you have access to a rattle wrench (impact) it will help you get it apart and back together easier. I did mine with combination wrenches and a ratchet and sockets. The thing to watch is the lower bolts on the front, they need to be about twice as tight as you would think or they rattle if you use the supplied bushings and original bolts. Just nail them down HARD and you will have no problems, and by hard I would estimate that mine are around 225 ft/lbs. Normally I don't change a turn signal bulb without a torque wrench, but in this case the bolts needed to be 1/2 turn past really freakin tight. It took me about 2 and 1/2 hours on my back in the driveway to do all 4 shocks. Hope this helps.
