I have had Pro Comp 9000 shock for a couple of years now and yesterday I found the left rear one is blown. I got a hold of the place that I got them from and they told me to send it back and they'd send me a new one for the shipping charges. I'm ok with paying the shipping, but what do I do run w/o a shock for a couple of weeks? I asked the guy this and he got snotty and said it was there policy. I offered to pay full price and have it refunded when they got the other shock. Then he told me that depending on how the shock looked it might not be warranttied becasue of abuse. I asked to speak to his manager and then this real dink got on the phone and I ended up hanging up on him.

Now here's my question is this a Pro Comp thing? Any one else had to try and get one of these Warranttied?

I am looking at the new duel tube edlebrock shocks instead.

Any one tried these yet?

Dee, I don't know what will happen. My vague impression with my Rancho 9000s is that their lifetime warranty means life of the shock not the truck. If they still work at all, they are not eligible for replacement. And who wants to replace one at a time when they fail completely?

Let us know what you find out; I have about 100K on my Ranchos and suspect that over time they have degraded somewhat but it is hard to step up to the warranty altar and sacrifice my equanimity for the day :(

I have replaced two rancho 9' under warranty. They gave me a new one at the Napa store and just replaced there inventory when the one came from rancho. Dont know whatr you will run into with super comp but its worth checking how they adjust before you buy as even a new shock can go bad. Goood luck, Dave

Got me Cooker. it is Pro Comp, I'll go back and change the first post. I am still alittle pi$$ if you can't tell... .

Joe, thanks for the reply, I had Ranchos 9000 on my old Ford and they where great except for one of the rear one's adjustment knobb was struck with a rock and it became un-adjustable.

I have also looked at the Rancho RXS shocks.

As you know, a warranty is only as good as the MFG and/or vendor.

FWIW - I think am going to try the Trailmaster SSV shocks. A friend of mine who owns a truck accessories shop highly recommends these. One of the main reasons is Trailmaster is very lenient when it comes to warranty, they will replace the shocks if you think they are bad. They don't have to leak or anything. That and the fact he has had fewer Trailmasters come back for warranty than any other brand of shock (and he sells more Trailmasters than any others). TDR member Bowhunter has a set on his truck and is very happy with them.

It's between the Bilsteins and the Trailmasters for me.

I hope it all works out well for you.

Edelbrock IAS shocks rock

Drawson,,Sorry to hear of the warranty issue,,I'm not sure if the shocks your speaking of are the Edelbrock Performer IAS shocks,,I have them on my 98 now for about 15,000 miles and they are the cats, well you get it,,Best performing all around shock I have ever used and the ride quality is unbelievable,,I'd put another set on in a heart beat and now have ordered a set for wifeys Durango,,Hit the suspension hard or soft and they give you the same smooth rebound, they are the best of both worlds to me,,Just my . 02 worth

Edelbrocks Rule

I'm with Hammer- I put the IAS shocks on my new 2002 when it had 200 miles on it- I do not believe the Ranchos are up to the task at least on my one ton and the guys at ProTrucks in my area of Virginia do major off road work and several of their projects have been featured in major Truck mags- they swear by Edelbrock in their personal rigs- a word of caution- I had to cinch the boots with plastic keepers because they tend to work their way down- I do a lot of bouncing with my 3500 Dually on the beach- just my . 02- Rancho is a great product but the field is big

Bilsteins are great

I ran these on my Vette, a 6 series BMW, and my Impala SS when I had them- they are OEM on Chevys- Tahoe and Suburban and are outstanding- I just took the advice of my neighborhhod truck builder

I went with the Edelbrock Performer IAS shocks on the rear only for now and These shocks are GREAT, They are a big improvement over the blown Pro Comps!!!!

As I recall the stock LR shock was blow(leaking also). i am wondering if this has anything to do with the axle torquing under a heavy foot??

Blown rear shocks

Glad the Edelbrocks are working for you- try to get the ones on the front as soon as you can- I am not sure why they go frankly I have never had that happen and I do not baby the drivetrain on my other vehicles- I have had a set of early Monroe Sensa-Tracs on my 95 Tahoe TBI350 4x4 with Wrangler ATS's (142,000 miles- only Mobil1) and it loves the combo- no leaks- I would tear up the De Carbons and Bilsteins on my LT-1 and LS1 powered Chevys and Firebirds with launches also never a failure- it must be that the torque is so much greater on our diesels and these Rancho. ProComp type shocks are really IMHO just for 1/2 ton gassers but I am no engineer- I will monitor the performance and reliability of the IAS units as Big Green ages - good luck with yours
