I called Monroe to learn about the Sensa-Trac and they told me they have a new development called Reflex. Where the Sensa-Trac rides soft, and reacts to fast compression by stiffening, the Reflex rides firm, and reacts to fast compression by initially softening, then going stiff as the shock nears full compression. This would allow the shock to "swallow" the big hit like a motorcycle shock, or the ones on my Mercedes. Monroe said that for those not carrying heavy loads (campers etc) the Reflex would be much more comfortable.

This is EXACTLY the same concept used in the Edelbrock IAS shock absorbers. I would imagine that Monroe is using a different system though, due to patents of the IAS technology. This concept works very well in my opinion.

Take a look at the Rancho RSX17000, built by the same company that makes Monroes. Difference being between the two is that the Rancho has a 5/8" shaft and the Monroe has a 1/2" shaft. I bought a set from Summit Racing, total cost to the front door was $156, made a big difference. Fathers day weekend will be the test when I hook to the trailer for a trip to the coast. .

Charlie; I too called Monroe and Ms. Monroe told me that almost everyone wants to firm up their ride, and the new Reflex will do that. BUT if I were looking for a "smoother" ride, one that will take out the road chop, the Sensa-Trac is the way to go. I did just that - and ordered from "carparts.com" $91 OTD with their 33% discount. They should arrive next week. I did rely heavily on Ted Jannetty's advice about this shock.

Just got back from the dealer that installed 4 Rancho 9000 5 speed shocks with the cab mounted remote system. I can dial in the ride from soft to firm on the fly. I have heard nothing but good stuff about the Rancho shocks. I will really put them to the test with my 3200 lb cabover camper soon.

Just bought 4 Rancho 9000's for my truck for $202. 00 delivered. Sales rep said Rancho was purchased by Monroe and Monroe now makes the Rancho shocks.
Just repeating what I was told.
