What do you think of Bilstein shocks? Mine I think are stock and need replacing. I thinks these run around $ 47. 50 ea. Are they good or could you rec. any better. thanks Kirk

'95 1 ton, ctd dually

I think that the Bilsteins are one of the best shocks available. However, due to the payload variations of a dually (I carry a big slide-in camper), I felt that it was absolutely necessary to get an adjustable shock. I went with the Rancho RS9000's which are among the most popular at this site.

I also got the incab controller option so that I can adjust the firmness while driving.

I just finished installing 4 of the bilstiens on my truck and they made a big difference. Much better ride over the big bumps and seems to handle a little better. I also help install shocks on my dads 98. 5 3500. We put bilsteins on the front and rancho9000's on the rear for when he tows. After putting the front shocks on he went for a drive and said it felt like he had a whole new front end.

Check out www.offroadwearhouse.com for bilstens... when you call tell them you are a TDR memeber and you get a discount (thanks to Bob Wagner I believe).

If you tow "big" loads I would put the Bilsteins on the front and the Rancho 9000's on the rear for the adjustment feature. If you don't I would go with the Bilsteins all the way around. Bilsteins are a higher quality shock than the Rancho's and will last longer. Several of the members in previous threads that have had both Bilstein and Rancho's like the Bilstein's better.

I put bilesteins all the way around and could not be happier. They are an excellent, stiff ride and the truck handles much better. I bought mine through Bobs GP at ORW they are great guys. I also got a bunch of other stuff from them at the discount. It applies to all there producted.

I thought of going with ranchos in the rear but the bilesteins have proven to be perfect for any load or trailer that I have run into. I like the adjustablity of the rancho but think from what I have seen the build and materials of the bilstein are far superior. Not a big deal as they are both lifetime warrentied.
