Got the chance to spend some quality time with my son and daughter yesterday burn'n up some powder. We havn't shot together in quite a while. It was lots of fun. I even shot my best group in a while. Not too bad for and old guy shooting free-hand at 30 yards. 240 grain semi-wad cutters out of my . 44 Redhawk.

Mainly it was just fun to have my grown kids together for an afternoon of good times. I was even able to get my daughter to shoot my . 44 "once".

I gave my Grandson a box of 22,s and some targets at his baby shower. Can't wait to introduce him to his Great Grandpa's old Stevens 22 bolt gun

I bought my son a reloader for his birthday ( 12/24). We put together some loads last week, he is really liking loading his own. My Dad gave my daughter a . 22 cal Smith when she was a couple years old. She is just now ready to shoot it.

Rattler,

That's good stuff. What brand of reloader did you get? What calibers are you loading? Good to hear shooting is being passed on! Both my boys started shooting at young ages.

Coolest grandpa of the year award goes to Gary!

Boy can I get some mileage out of that!

Mom and Dad both tickled with gift. His Mom just spent her first time in a tree stand this year, saw hogs IIRC.

The shooting sports are a true sport and while it is a Right under law, I think it goes without saying we need to treat it as a privlidge and always earn the RIGHT.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Gary

Thanks. I got him a starter kit from Lyman. Good thing is he can use my RCBS dies and holders. Because we both have . 357's and . 270's, we can use the same stuff. I load some other stuff to. 45-70. 30-30, 44 mag, and 38.

before we went out last time, i went to town on the reloading bench. i had a box that weighed about 40-50 pounds just with ammo and mags. mostly i loaded up soft stuff because i seem to be the only one that appreciates a little kick. i actually got everyone to shoot the 44 mag, and my mom shot the 300 win. 54 gr varget and a hornady 150 spire point make a super soft/ sparkling clean load. for the 45-70 i believe it was 32 of 4227 and any 300 grain makes something that you can shoot all day. on the other hand the 460's with 52 of h335 makes something thats fun for about ten. it split a log in half though.

I went over to my new neighbors to shoot on New Years Eve. He had a bunch of his buddies over. All of these guys were young Military. Great bunch of guys, but none of them had ever shot big bore pistol. They had a couple of AK-47's and some 9 mil's. I let them all shot my . 44 mag Redhawk and the . 45-70 Contender. I had as much fun watching them shoot the big bores as they did shooting them. Big fun. One guy said he felt that 45-70 in his shoulder for 5 minutes after he shot.
