I visited w/a diesel shop here today & this is how I digested the discussion into a repair estimate...

LP Replacement

$170 for lift pump

$ 60 - 1 hour labor

==============

$230 - $300 TOTAL

Inj Pump Replacement

$1345 for injection pump

$ 180 - 3 hours labor

================

$1525 - $1700 TOTAL

Does this sound in line? I'm still considering doing the LP myself.

Bob... . located in South Texas... I think I can probably do the lift pump myself but I imagine that the inj. pump is beyond me.

There was a fair set of directions in the last issue of the TDR magazine. Not as detailed as it could be, and missed a few steps, but it definitely took the fear out of doing it myself.

lbailey, if you've done some wrenching on vehicles before and can follow directions I think you could tackle the project easy enough. Maybe one of the TDR members in your vicinity would be willing to come by and lend a hand or pass you the tools.

Here's a helpful writeup done by Kent Earnest of a VP-44 replacement with good instructions and great photos:

I would get the lift pump from Cummins, they're in the $140 range if I remember right.

Good luck,

Vaughn
