Went to Lowes and found a filter from a shop Vac Replacement . Used a AFE Tourqe tube and a 6" to 4" reduction from the Duct section at LOwes. Removed air box and stock intake hose. The tourqe tube Shop Vac Filter fit right in. Has anyone tried this??Havent gone anywhere yet . On the shop vac filter there is a plug at the end like a cover,do you think it will hold the sucking pressure of the turbo??

Im gonna go out on a limb here and say you defenetly are the first ( and possibly last) to try this... . ;)

Are you for real? A shop Vac filter? Have you ever turned on a shop vac and watched the dust that escapes the filter? That would be what is going into your engine. Glad it is your engine and not mine. Spend some money and get a real filter much cheaper in the long run.

Hey bra I have read posts where guys are selling there AFE filters cause of dirt in the intake tube. The shop vac filters are nanofiber and made by Donaldson. Well if there is dirt that gets buy at least it only cost me 14 bucks instead of 60. 00. If drywall dust cant get by it how can dirt?Everyone here is sharing all there testing on different things to share with other members . Just because it is for a shop vac its something to laugh at me about. Tell that to the guys that run BHAF same company makes it. Also the wire mesh inside at least 5 times stronger then other High Quality Filters ive seen good luck with your AFE...

The BHAF doesnt cost 14 bucks and there is probably a reason why. If you want to try it go ahead. I personally wouldnt want it in front of my turbo at 50 lbs of boost. just my . 02 cents.

We aren't making fun of you..... just the idea of using a shop vac filter. I tried something out yesterday on your behalf. I took a K&N filter & hooked it up to my shop vac to see if the K&N would let particles past like the shop vac filter did. When vacuuming with the shop vac filter... . I saw particles coming out the blower end of the vac. I tried the K&N filter & got alot of air, but no dust was visible. The old K&N filters have been proven to let dust particles flow through them that could damage engine parts. I really did this test because I believe that everyone has good ideas & bad ones, but I just wanted to know for myself ... how well a shop vac filter would screen particles. Try it out & you will understand... . You gotta see it to believe it. I think you will change your mind.

Me808garam,

sorry I haven't updated my sig for a while to please you but I currently run a Wix BHAF with outerwears covering it.

I apologize if you got p-o'd at my joke but really take a look at the whole picture. You have what 20-30k easily in value of a great truck and you want to use a shop vac. filter, please find the humor in it. As you know the intake is a very important feature, I'm sure you won't go looking for the least expensive engine oil only because others have had blown an engine using Amsoil will you?

Again, sorry for the folks here bashing you but please understand our perspective...

Before you throw rocks...

My 98 came with an Amosil air filter. First oil analysis showed 35PPM of silicon, and the microscopic slide showed a grain of sand and a metal shaving the same size.

How many of you still use those filters?

I had K&N on my 01 till I found sand/grit on the intake tube and turbo blades?

How many still run those?

A FILTER IS A FILTER, depends on the micron rating. If he wants to run one, let him. His oil analysis will tell if it is good or not.
