I want to get new tires before winter gets here, but not quite sure what I want. I have 285-75 bfg all terrains right now and I was disappointed with them last winter when in wet, heavy snow. What tires is everyone else running?

Will

Will, If you are looking for a tire which will do good in snow, you need to get a narrower tire. Narrow tires dig into the snow, while wider tires float more on the snow and they have to push their way thru. I still have the factory Michelin LTX A/S, tires on my truck and they are not good in snow! KL

I just got done posting this reply to another member that was looking for winter tires in the second-generation forum so I figured I would post it here as well. I hope it helps.

I had a 94 3500 for 6 years and I ran cooper discoverer sst for both winter and summer driving the winter set was studded and the summer set was obviously not. I only had one flat in those 6 years and the tires worked great.

On my current 2500 I run the Toyo open country tires in the summer and for winter I run the same Toyo open country tires. It shocked me how well they worked in the snow and ice. I even had studded tires to put on the truck this last winter but never did because the open country’s worked so well. The truck even pulled a buddies minivan that slid of the road and ended up 30 foot down a bank last winter. The trooper wanted to call a wrecker because he thought there was know way the truck could pull him out. To tell the truth my buddy wasn't sure either but on the second pull the truck walked him out of the ditch. All the trooper said was I don't believe it. What type of tires do you have on that truck? Big wide Toyo’s that’s all. :-laf

Will, I've been looking at tire for a while now. I will run the stock tire for we are planning to buy a 5th wheel someday. I'm leaning towards the Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo. On Tire Rack's website they are rated very well in all categories. Jeff

I know for the best traction I would have to get a narrow tire but I like the looks of the tires I have now and want to find some that do better in the snow than what I have.

Are the toyo's priced pretty close to the bfg? I paid about $150/tire.

I have Cooper S/T's on my Ram. Have been a great tire for me, winter or summer. Reasonable price. The only 2 flats I have had, were from the rubber valve stems tearing. Will buy them again, next time I need to buy tires.

I am getting some weld's cheyannes 18's with probably Toyo tires... ... ..... They are the bomb. Not sure if they are good in snow though, oh yeah it don't snow here... ;)

I'm runnin' the Bridgestone Dueler AT with the REVO technology. I've been very impressed with wet traction at breakaway, the grip of normal cornering when wet, and dry traction on extreme cornering. I've pushed them pretty darn hard and they don't give that breaking loose squeal when cornering hard.

I cannot address the matter of handling in snow 'cause it seldom snows here, and when it does I stay the **** off the streets so the morons who don't understand driving in icy conditions don't crunch one of my trucks.
