Shopping for trailer tires, Nan Kang??

I'm shopping for 5th wheel tires, 9000# trailer. Currently have Marathon load D. Didn't have any problems. Sears can get both but recommends Nan Kang. Opinions or experience??

Ask Sears if they will pay for the repairs to the 5ver should you have a tread separation or blowout. When a Goodyear Marathon failed on my last 5ver, it did $2400 in damages. Goodyear stepped to the bar, replaced the tires and wrote a check for $2400.



My current 5ver has Goodyear Wrangler HT's (LT235/85R-16E). Even though we've had 12,000 trouble free miles on them and they still look like new, we're heading out for some long trips this summer. Since a number of individuals here and on iRV2.com have reported tread separations on the Wrangler HT's, for peace of mind, the 5ver is going in tomorrow to get a set of Michelin XPS Ribs installed.



With the history of tire failures on 5vers (they typically are loaded to 90% of GAWR or better), I wouldn't scrimp on tires. JM2CW

checkout this site before mounting up those expensive XPS's. I ordered up a new camper with XPS's and they put cheap valve stems in. They had to change them out before we took delivery.

Thanks for that info. The tires on my 5ver (load range E) require 80 psig inflation pressure, so you can bet that they will have proper metal valve stems installed. I'm dealing with Discount Tire, and the particular store I'll be going to does a lot of trucks and 5th wheels, so I'm hoping that it won't be a problem.

The choice is yours, but I am tired of seeing all of our good jobs go overseas. I for one would opt for the Goodyears. They are an American company and the tires are made in America! If you have had good luck with Goodyears, stay with 'em.



Make sure that you get the proper tire for your rig... you did have it weighed didn't you ?



If you would have problems, a Goodyear dealer is likely right around the corner... can you say the same for Nan Kang?



Finally Michelins are excellent tires also, but they have one thing going for 'em that I simply can no longer abide by... they are FRENCH! As far as I'm concerned, those *******s will never get another dime from me. Sadly, my new '03 DR CTD came with Michelins and as soon as they wear out some good ol' AMERICAN Goodyears (like God intended !) are gonna get put on my truck.

I had 4 Nankangs and 2 marathons separate last summer. I'm running Green Ball Towmasters now. My tire co's suppplier said they have given less trouble than other brands. I wish there were a brand that didn't give any trouble I am runing 225-75-15 size and they were all up in inflation and not even close to loaded to capacity.

I had a marathon let loose on me on the way back from Muncie ... local tire guy recommends the TowMasters ..... he tells me the same thing as Joe heard ... . so I'm opting for the TowMasters in load range D . .

The Michelin XPS Ribs are now installed on the 5th wheel. Although my wallet is notably lighter, I feel better. YMMV.
