On my 98 2500 Quad Cab I had a shorted feed wire in the drivers side power seat. It was caused because of where the wire bundle is routed going to the control switches. The wires comes from the various motors under the seat and go up between the seat cusion and the seat frame. The frame has a very sharp edge and when you sit on the seat your weight squeezes the wire down on it. The red feed wire was the second one to ground out. The result of this was two dead batteries at a camping area in Maine. I cut two slots in the frame and bent the section down and filed it where the wire hits and added a generous amount of tape. A friend has a 2001 and they added a piece of stick-on tape onto the frame. I wrote to DM/CH and asked if they could spell engineer or engineered.

P. S. - it's spelled enginERR and enginERRING! (Pun intended- sorry, TxRam!)
10-4 on ERR & ERRING. And that seat did make me HOT for a while. Not as hot as when I got my truck new and put my 5Th wheel on and found out that there were no spring perches on the truck. Nearly put the spring ends through the floorboards. But I have a great engine with the proper # of valves. Keep smilin.

A friend's two young kids figured out how to operate the power seat, they rode it till it died,$600 fix. I saw where the wires were rubbing on the sharp edge on my '95,I wrapped it with spiral plastic wire loom material and tape before it became an electric chair. There are also metal supports under the dash around the steering column that are very sharp, beware of wires passing through that area.

Dumb question, but, what were the springs attached to?

Bill, There are no dumb questions only dumb answers. Springs are attached to the axle and truck frame. My truck is 2/w and has main leafs and overload(?) springs. The mains connect to frame with hanger/shackle on ends. The "overloads" stack on top and only come into play when the truck has a load on it. Then the spring ends come into contact with 2 blocks(perches) that are bolted to the frame. These were missing when it was new.
