transmission is hard shifting into gear on initial takeoff. really have to jam it sometimes. between gears is fine. I'm thinking of the new short shifter for the NV4500. all ads say 98 up. will it fit on a 97? the transmission was replaced new a year ago. sure could use a shorter throw. :(

Try changing out your gear oil with REDLINE. I used Amsoil which made a difference and then went to REDLINE and that took all the notchyness out of the transmission for me. I cannot make any claims that this is the end-all treatment. I know it worked for me and I would suspect there are others who have done something simlar that has worked for them. I also have a huge bar magnet on the inside of the left PTO cover. ;)

AKTRAPPER,

The short shifter kit won't in the early NV4500 but you'd want to see if that's what your new trans is. There's a difference in the shifter and the kit only works in the late version BUT, I'd look for something else making your problem in getting into gear. If you have a trans problem one of those shorter shifter kits won't fix it.

Mundgyver, he has a five speed. We're in the 12 valve forum?

Thats why I suggested an oil change. Some times thats all that is needed. If it is binding up hard where the syncros are not even helping then a more in-debth look would be required. ;)

thanks, gonna change the trans fluid and give it a shot. just thought the shorter shift would be nice. have to check my paper work and see what transmission they shipped me.

keep the shiny side up.

Did your NV4500 come with the small plastic shift tower (4" square)? If it did then it will take a short throw kit.

The older NV4500 had the shift tower as part of the fork and rail assembly and is completely different.
