Castro Says Anthrax Less Serious Than a Cold

Power Boosters?

This weekend at a sniper match, I was able to hit a 12 inch X 18 inch Larue target at 1000 yards (that's over 1/2 mile) twice in a row with a 12 MPH crosswind at full value. The shot after these two missing by an inch or two. WOW what a rush!! This was the first time I had ever shot at 1000 yards. I was using a Springfield Armory M-25 Whitefeather. (It's a custom M1A) For optice I used a Burris 6-24 ballistic mil dot scope, and I even had some elevation left over. For ammo, I was using Military M-852 168gr match ammo. It still cant believe I did this..... What a rush!!!!

KEWL!

That's about 5/8 of a mile (1760 yards = 5280ft = 1 mile)

Reach out and touch someone!

( now if you could do that with a Colt 1911 . 45... . That would be beyond cool ) :)

Try Black Powder !

Our guy's shoot a 550 grain bullet at about 1200 fps with the old Buffalo Rifles at 1000 yds. You can imagine how much that Puppy drops. Wind is the Killer. ;) ;) ;)

I've got a M1A super match with the Leup 6. 5x20 with 3/4 minute dot. Pretty amazing little 308. I'm putting together an AR10 right now with the heavy stainless match bbl and the national match trigger. It will have the 4x10 Shepherd 18" strata and so far looks like it is going to shoot circles around most other sniper rigs. Love dem guns!!!

1000yd Benchrest the real deal

1000 yd quite a long way eh,,We shoot here in Pa a few weekends a month from early spring to fall near Williamsport at that distance,,Its quite a rush especially when the wind gets blowing,,My personal choice for the shoots in light gun(16. 5 lbs or less) is a 6mm Ackley and in heavy gun is a . 308 Bear,,Both topped with Nightforce scopes of course,,Last weekend we were up there was a monster 8 pt buck in the valley just a wandering around as if we were not even there,,Stayed through the whole shoot, quite a sight,,Long range ya just gotta love it ... .

Try the Sierra 175s. A much better bullet for long range. Your 168s are close to going subsonic, if they didn't do that already. M852 is good stuff, but you'll be happier with a slightly heavier bullet. I believe that's what Sierra had in mind for the 175 - to allow service rifle shooters to keep their bullets supersonic all the way to 1000 yds.

I couldn't even see the gong at 600 yds w/o my scope..... I'm pretty much done at 300yds with my little . 270 w/3-9x. Not the gun - my eyes:(

Must be fun to shoot that gun.

Timinator.

I would have used the 175's if

1. I had some

2. I had the gun zeroed for 175's.

I was lucky to have the 168's. I got them from an Army buddy attending the match that morning. I brought some 173Gr reloads that I loaded for the event, and I couldnt hit the 800 yard target with them. I threw them back in the can, and went scrounging. I got 120 rounds of M852 that morning, and I re-zeroed at 100 yards about 30 minutes before I hit the 1000 yard range. If I hadnt gotten that ammo, I would have only scared the target :D

I agree, the 175's are better for this.

Stay away from the 173's. Most I've pulled from loaded ammo were real bananas!!

If you get the time, I'm told that you could pull the 168's and replace them with the 175's w/o overpressure.

Dont take my word for it though... I'm running home cooked 165 gr AP out of my old Garand @ 2850++ fps. :D ;)

I like the 300 mag. , 200 gr. Sierra. I shoot a custom Ruger Mod. 77. The thing is the bullet is at the same velocity at 1000 yds as my Combat Commander- 45 is at the barrel. A no. 8 Douglas barrel, fluted with a muzzel break. That helps keep it off me. Feel's bout' like a 30-06. It will hit a quarter consistantly at 300 yds. I guess I'll have to let somebody else shoot it, though The eyes are going dim.

Happy shootin... .

The 300 win mags were GREAT for the long range, but overall, the guys who had the 300 win mags were at a disadvantage for this competition. The events were timed, and one team that had instructors from the Army Sniper school vowed never to bring 300 win mags to this event again. On many timed events at 100 yards, they couldnt get all the rounds off in the time alloted. They did say they could make 3. 5 inch groups at 1000 yards, but it didnt help in the short range events.

I hope one day to get my 308 to hit as well at 300 yards as your 300 Win Mag. (hey I can at least wish... . )

Conley:

I must say the 308 is the most accurate round with the least punishment of all rifles I've fired. With my load I had to search for the right bullet with the velocity I wanted. 3100 at 10 ft.

The same armorer that built mine also built the 308 I shot. At 100 yards, 3 rounds broke paper on 1. 2 shots 1 hole. The next cut half a hole. That was exciting for me and no pain.

His 223 counter sniper is better yet.

Good luck and stay on my side. :D
