Guns, Bows, Shooting Sports, and Hunting Palm Gun

Are you going to be hunting any ducks or geese? If so you will want one that can chamber a 3" shell. Do you want pump or semiauto? There will be a big difference in price there as well.

Cannot beat a Remington 870. If you are going to hunt LOTS of geese, I'd get the 3 1/2" magnum, but for most folks, the 3" will be fine. You can shoot 2 3/4 and 3's. 12 gauge, of course. Other good pump is the Benelli Nova, Mossberg 500. Ford or Chevy. Or Dodge. :-laf

Andy,

That guy in the video is impressive!

I don't use my scatter gun much, but it is an 870 Wingmaster, gotta love that pump sound, kinda 12V'ish.

i would have to say a mossberg 835 supermag. ive had mine through huntin every day of the season (for 4 years) of duckhuntin and everything. i would definitly buy anotherone in a heartbeat.

Semi Auto: 1st. Benelli Super Black Eagle, 2nd Benelli Montefeltro 3rd Benelli M2 Field

Next on the food chain would be the Berreta Xtrema 2, 391

Remington semi auto loaders are here with the Brownings.

Pump Remington 870 and Benelli Super Nova and Nova.

That's the food chain on field shotguns.

Never shot the Beratta X-treme, but I have shot quiet a few rounds through a pump 12ga. Beratta Silver Pigeon. Very good gun. Next, I like the 870 as mentioned, since it is very reliable and easy to get extra parts if you need them. Recomend the 12 ga in full choke no matter the length of shell. Be sure to try different brands and loads at a target 45 steps (45 yards) to see if the pattern stays together reasonably well. Some ammuntion blows holes in the center of the shot pattern. (Speaking from experience, since I have covered more 3"X5" cards at 45 yards than most in our area)

Just my 2 cents

Kinda disagree with the full choke idea. 50 years of upland game hunting & waterfowl leads me to feel most hunters handicap themselves with too much choke. Buy a gun with screw in choke tubes, you'll likely end up shooting the inmproved cylinder on upland game and the modified on waterfowl.

If yer flushing birds, what ever shotgun that fits you and tickles yer fancy would work great! I have an 870 Remington. Its adequate for birds and rabbits. I have used a muzzle loading shotgun, SXS double and O/U double. The new Autoloaders would be a real kick to shoot. My personal preference for small game (squirrels, rabbits) and grouse is a . 22 rifle or pistol. I dont know if that is legal in your state? Geese, Ducks, Pheasants and Doves require a shotgun. I also have my Dads Savage O/U 12 ga. and a Marlin 12 Ga Goose gun with the 36" barrel. The barrel length is not necessary for velocity, but it does reduce the report at the muzzle! 'Cept fer local regulations, a shotgun is jes fer somebody that cant see or dont know how to use a rifle;):-laf:D. Have fun. SEMPER FI!!Oo. GregH

The Benelli exhibition shooter is equally/ more impressive. I would like to try both of these shotguns.

The Beretta's are really nice shotguns gas operated. The Benelli's are really nice shotguns recoil operated lighter than a Beretta, require less maintenance, and are more reliable. There isn't any carbon to clean on a Benelli because of being recoil operated. Gas guns blow gas, and carbon back into the action to get them to function. The only thing in the fore end of a Benelli is the tube. The Beretta has action works stuff in the fore end.

The Benelli barrels are hard chromed and cryo treated. I don't know if the Beretta barrels are.

Generally hard chrome is much more resistant to harsh environments and easier to clean.

Benelli comes apart extremely easy should you feel the need to clean it. I shoot mine in 3 gun and the gun just won't stop runing. A little oil every few months and you're g2g.

On a Benelli remove the mag tube cap and pull the barrel off pull the charging handle out and the bolt and carrier come out, pull one pin on the carrier and that assembly comes apart.

If money is an issue I'd look at the Mossberg 930 for a semi auto. We've done some testing with one and it has held up real well.

Yes all my Benellis have interchangeable chokes. It would be cheaper to have your barrel tapped for chokes than it would be to buy a barrel.

I got a pre ban m1 super 90 it is from when they first came out. it has an integral choke. just googled a bit and most people say the m1 barrells are to thin to have a choke setup put on and the barrells if you can find them are as expensive as another shotgun. I got to wait till after christmas but I think I'm gonna go witha 16 gauge remington with an extra stock so I can get my kids involved
