This is my first post, and I'll tell you, I love this truck! It's a 2001 2500 completely stock with an automatic. Every time I start that baby up, I get a grin on my face! I love this web site, also, but I keep reading stuff about upgrading the tc and vb and watching out for egt. Do I need to worry about this stuff as long as I am stock. I tow a 29' starcraft 5er. Ease my mind, I hope.

I can't answer any of your questions, but I can be the first to welcome you to the forum. Enjoy.

Don, I think I might be partially qualified to answer your questions. You should not have any EGT concerns if you are totally stock and don't drive it like you stole it with a heavy load on it. If you tow keep the RPM up, above 1500 in OD for sure. The higher your RPM the higher your transmission pressures are and the risk of slipping in the trans is reduced. Also try to tow with the TC in lock up as out of lock up it is very inefficient and generates a lot of heat. Use as much power as you can without unlocking the TC, and when the RPM drop below 1500 in OD downshift and let it lock up again. It is my opinion that the transmission in our truck as it comes from Dodge is a terrible match for the Cummins and needs to be upgraded with a TC and a VB. Since we are talking opinions, I will be buying my TC and VB from DTT. Hope I helped a little. By the way, welcome aboard!

Don, welcome and no need to worry. I have had my truck for 7 months now and still smile everytime I take a ride. You might want to consider a egt. gauge, as you tow, for piece of mind. Also, I believe that many of the auto guys have a trans. temp gauge, again, for peace of mind. Other than that, enjoy the ride and STAY AWAY from the mad BOMBer's on this site. I hear their nothing but trouble #ad

OOOPS ! You may think I'm a mad BOMBer, but I'm not 'cause I can stop anytime I want, the mad one's are the one's that can't stop #ad

No problems as far as EGT, but unlike the other posts above, i don't let RPMs drop below 2k before locking out OD. 1500 is getting a tad low IMHO.

Now that my warranty is up, DTT VB and TC are going in.
