Friend installed Power Puck on his truck recently. Said it added too much power to use when driving around empty.

He finally got around to using it while towing a significant load, yesterday.

Called today and said he laid long strip of rubber when taking off and didn't even know it until later when his friend who was following him told him about it.

It scared him to have so much power. He's afraid he will soon toast his clutch, and maybe worse (he doesn't have an EGT guage).

Bottom line is this: He wants to sell his Puck to me.

Should I buy it?

What would be a fair price for a slightly used Puck?

I have Bosch 275 injectors and a TST PowerMax, now. I have the boost elbow installed which came with the PowerMax.

I know of a few guys who have hooked a EZ in behind a PowerMax. Would that be possible with the Puck? Stupid? Dangerous? Fun? All the above?

I know these are alot of questions. Please answer all or only one or as many as you like. Thanks in advance.

I'm having trouble resisting a good deal and more power at the same time. :D

Ninearrow, You scared me for a moment when I first read that you were considering buying a used Power PUKE! I think my heartbeat is back to normal now...

My power goodies are a bit dated now since technology has roared forward so quickly, but I still keep my EZ on and at level three at all times except when the cruise control is engaged (it powers up and down and up and down with it on). Running empty almost all the time, I find that I get significant tire spin when pulling from a stop or at very low speed if I'm less than gentle with the pedal. However, I cannot say I've EVER been concerned about having too much power! My two cents' worth - go with it and enjoy!

Tulsa, would you please elaborate on what you were saying about using cruise with the EZ?

I'm installing EZ tonight and this concerned me because I live

on cruise... actually I haven't had cruise for about 4 weeks but when it's working, it's always on. I got the recall notice from Chrysler on Thursday about the faulty clock spring, on Wednesday it broke! nice timing and now the part is on national back order so I've been without cruise and my air bag for about 4 weeks.

You also referred to the EZ levels, I thought the EZ levels could only be set by opening the box, but it sounded like you were setting them from inside the cab?

Hes got the PowerEdge, not the EZ. The PowerEdge is adjustable from in cab but it is a "major" fueling box. The EZ is milder and non adjustable other then for smoke levels.

Install your EZ and be happy. THe cruise will work fine. Bruce jsut mixed up the two products. The EZ is "comparable" to his VA.

used puck

The only issue with buying a used puck is the model of the engine. The older units were dependent on whether it was a HO or not. The HO units would not work on standard engines and vice versa. If that is not the case with you, then go for it. There is no issue with swapping trucks with it.

Hard to say what a fair price is. I give a discount to the local TDR group here for new ones. You might want to find out that before you decide on what you will pay for a used one.

Go For It!

As long as the unit has stayed dry you are ok. As with any electronic device, once it gets wet while it is energized it is toast. The Puck looks like it will hold up to the elements well since the top is sealed by an "O" ring (the top is held on by allen screws. This is where you can hook up a computer and tweak the fueling and timing parameters). I am very happy with my Puck, but it and my 275's toasted the clutch on my ETH. Diablo Sport says that you will not have EGT problems with the Puck..... that is false.

If you run one get a Pyro and a Boost Gage... . looks like you already have them.

Vaughn MacKenzie tried my puck on his truck and along with his DD2s it hauled butt. He was careful not to toast his clutch, but since his truck is two wheel drive with smaller tires it takes less torque to move than mine.

The Puck fuels like the VA, and EZ boxes. It plugs in like the VA, so make sure you do not have a "VOID" sticker on the pump.

Bob Riley, you have e-mail

Well, my DUH! What I meant about the cruise is just a little slowdown, major power boost (acceleration), followed by another slight slowdown, etc. etc, so it's like a yo-yo in cruise with the PE "engaged". For me, I just reach to the steering column where my handy little power box is installed, touch the button and it's off. When I need to blow the doors off, er, pass that little ol' lady, one touch and it's ON and I'm flying.

Thanks for helping me clear my pipes, Eric. I've been working too much...
