Should I buy

Hey, I need some info or thoughts on buying or keeping my truck. I have 97 4x4 5 speed club cab long bed With 42,000 miles on it. I have been looking at the 2002's. But the Question is should I update with a plate and if so which one. Or should I go for the 6th speed in a new one. My gross weight with my 5th wheel is 17,500 lbs on OR state scales.

If I trade or sale it , is any one intrested in it?

KEEP THE 97

I suggest you keep the 97. The #12 plate(230HP/605T) will be a big increase in performance. The #11 plate(280HP/685T) and gauges will make you one great hauler.

RottenRob ... you win big with that version of motor. The 96 & 97, Non-Calif, 215hp, 5 speeds got better pumps than the rest. That's according to Mark @ TST. You can spend $300 on a TST plate that will take you from 230/605 to over the 400hp mark. The pump will continue to supply fuel with the radical plates ... lots of bandwidth in that baby. Now that's big 's.



When you get around the 300 to 340 hp range, you'll need a bigger clutch. If you go even more, you'll need a bigger turbo.



My suggestion would be to get the boost & EGT guage & the TST #11 plate. You can keep the same clutch & turbo. Ck out the table in the link:

Wanna Trade

I will trade you my 99 Quad Cab 4x4 5sp for you CC 5sp for all the reasons mentioned above. I do have a set of 275 RV injectors and the PS Boost Module installed.

I agree with what the others are saying 'KEEP THE 97' for the same reasons. It wouldn't take long to realize just how much I missed the added power / torque of a few minor mods. Not that I have made a few but it sure runs good when ya got a few pounds behind ya...

A new truck with lots of goodies is probably better that an 97 truck with lots off goodies. An 97 truck with lots of goodies is better than a stock new truck and $,$$$. 00 less money as well. Keep the 97.

Thanks for the replys. You have me convinced to keep the 97. With the money diff , I can get a extra fuel tank and some other gooodys. . I plan on retiring in a year or so . Should have it ready to go by then. Again thanks for the info. Think I will ask Santa for a #11 plate and gauges.
