I have a chance to sell my mint 2006 dually 3500 with topper, etc. and 9400 miles. I'm considering it and maybe buying a new one when I finally get ready to hit the road. I'm interested for opinions on whether to do this or not. I'm wondering how folks are liking the new diesel engine compared to the 5.9 as far as problem areas, DEF requirements etc.
I'm also wondering what my 06 might be worth. It is a 6 spd with a Leer topper, class 5 hitch, Ranchhand grill guard and steps, and brake controller. It is the Lone Star edition.
Thanks for your input.
Don

The 5.9 are in high demand because they are not burdened with much emission equipment. I assume you meant 94K miles, with that low of mileage it is just getting broke in. Unless you need to switch to 4wd or something like that I would just keep it.

Thanks for the reply. Nope, the mileage is 9454 miles total. I get it out of the garage once a month, wash it and drive it dry and back in the garage it goes. The oil and filter gets changed once a year with Shell Rotella T6. The antifreeze was changed last year. The brake fluid and power steering fluid was changed this year. New optima batteries this year. Should be good to go if and/or when I get to. Just hate to have it sit and depreciate and pay insurance on it.

So if you don't use it why would you want to replace it? Seems you would be better served by just selling it. I bought my 06 in 10 during the gas crisis. Book value is higher now than when I bought it so the 06 isn't loosing value. You won't be able to say that if you get a 14-15,

You need to use that truck to haul your vintage JD tractors to some antique tractor shows.:)

I had bought it to pull a fifth wheel trailer when I retired. Well, I am now retired and have been for 7 years now but due to caring for parents during this time, no fiver is in the picture yet. I was just wondering if folks who have had the5.9 and the 6.7 like one or the other better. And if there are any problem areas with the new diesel that I haven't heard about.
Thanks.

Just not too many shows in this area. Had to sell the 5020 because I didn't have anything big enough to haul it. Hated to see it go. But I found an "H" to replace it.

If you do sell it just jump direct to eBay as it appears there are a lot of 'dealers' out there that will do this for you and pocket the 5 figure profit. Lack of emissions = high resale. So you could say folks are willing to pay through the nose to avoid the new emissions.
