Ford question

03 cummins performance

i'm scheduled to pick up a 2003 Ford F-350 equipped with the 6. 0 Powerstroke for my new work truck. (utility company) I will be putting about 750 miles a week on it and will be the only driver. My question to you is would anybody be interested in my experience with and observations of this new truck?

Sure, let us know everything about it... . do all the 6. 0's come with 325 HP ?... Is the new truck a dually?... utility/service bed?... auto, manual?... ... My buddy just picked one up also, put a utility bed on it, it is a reg. cab, 4x4. Haven't really talked to him much about it but he says it hauls a$$ compared to his 2001' powerstroke.

I will be interested to see how my 2003' HO measures up to his, I should have mine next week!

Doesn't Ford recomend 7,000 miles between engine changes with the 6. 0L ?

Humour (or truth?) aside,, YES!, by all means,, let us know, good, bad, or the ugly how the little wonder runs.

OK since the only responses I got were AYES I will keep you all updated. The posts will be under the heading of NEVADA 6. 0 P. S. D REPORT so that you won,t have to guess by just looking at the post headers. Here are the specs on the truck I,m getting. It is a 2003 F-350 super cab, chassis cab. 6. 0 liter P. S. D six speed manual transmission,4x4,3:73 gears with a Koenig 106 inch utility body. I expect the truck will weigh about 9,300 lbs when loaded with it,s standard compliment of tools and materials.

I believe I will be able to give a fair report on the truck as since I didn't buy it I don't have any pride tied up in it one way or the other. On the other hand this truck is replacing a similiarly equipped 99 7. 3 PSD which served me extremely well for 164,000 miles. I love my Dodge but the only experience I have had with the Ford diesel was positive so I think I can be fair. I actually asked for a Dodge this time but the boss is a Ford man. It's his money so what can I say. I should be putting miles on the new truck fast enough to make it interesting and I will track every tank of fuel for mileage reports.

Is your boss aware of the problems that the new 6. 0 is having? I think he's nuts to buy one. Today I overheard a guy telling his friends at the Coffee shop that his son-in-law bought a new '03 and was towing his boat to the shore and it broke down 2/3 of the way there. Dealership gave him another '03 to use and that one broke down too. Be prepared to sitting on the side of the road this week. Maybe. Hopefully not.

That truck is going to cost your boss a lot more than he thinks.

You'll be spending most of your time at the dealership, and you'll probably have to work overtime to make up for the truck downtime.

Best of luck.

Matt

naw, they cant be that bad, earthroamer bought one to replace his 2500

Wonder how honest he will be in reporting problems/failures.

The F**D guys and duramax kids live in denial and demand PROOF of any problems, we on the other hand are open and willing to discuss any faults with our beloved CTD's.

No, not really. I dont read his column anymore, I'd have to be a "rich kid" to actually buy most of the stuff he adds to his truck, it's dreamland stuff for most working stiffs.

I just hope he prints the truth and enjoys his new 6. 0 PSD.

On fords behalf. Alot of the issues were international related. They were getting ready for a strike. And did a lousy job. Most of the problems at the plant have been fixed. So the ones coming out now will be a better judge of the quality. The people that get a good one are happy as can be. Especially with all those articles to pump up their egos.

I want to see what kind of uprates dodge will give us to compete with the psd. Now that its within 5 lb ft of ford. The sales from the new hemi should help them to cream the psd. More money to beat the competition with. All those people that buy just for hp should flock to the hemi. It has more hp than the 8. 1 chevy or the v10 ford. Us informed folks know that it is the torque thats important so get this. I got it second hand but I will lay it out for you . Maybe someone knows better. The 5. 7 hemi makes more torque at 1200 than the 360 made at peak torque. Its gonna be a mean mother. This thing is 38hp shy of a mustang cobra and its supercharged. I think Dc hit this ball out of the park. Now I hear whispers they are making a 6 liter hemi that stomps the 8. 0 v10. Holy cow. Ford and Chevy are going to have their work cut out for em.

With all due respect, I don't think the union mechanics had a choice of good or bad injectors or ICP modules to install. The software for the ECM is out of their hands too. I think management makes those decisions. The mechanics just bolt them together. They have no say in the quality of vendor parts. (Seimens)

I took a ride in a 2500 HEMI with a friend who's looking for a truck. It's a ROCKET! And the sound... Man what a sound!

Me too, I understand your point but a strike or union negotiations didnt make F**D use a two piece head assembly and rocker bolts so long you have to pull the engine to do head work / head gasket relacements, what a POS or should I say PSD?

I dont think much of the design, sorry it sounds like a real loser to me.

Our 6.0

We picked up a 2003 F-550 in Gulfport and made it 33. 3 miles before we had to visit a Ford dealer. They worked on it about an hour or so and got us going again (I don't know what they did). Also visited the Ford dealership in Jacksonville, FL for a cam sensor and EGR valve (about 4 hours) then on down to Lake Park, FL and had the EGR valve replaced again. Now we are around 1,200 miles on the odometer. I will be flying back down to Lake Park in June to bring it back. WE WILL SEE.
