I have a stock 2001 2500 HO with 6 speed. I am completely satisfied in every way with my engine, but the high idle and 3 cylinder warm-up are awfully tempting. I'm looking for a recommendation from those who have had it done. Are you happy with the result? Has fuel economy or any other characteristic suffered? I would be grateful to learn about your experience.

I'am going to get the re-flash done soon. Most everything I have heard about the re-flash has been positive, there have been a few that say they got less MPG but in my opinion they probably forgot to figure in something like winter blend fuel or some other minor thing. The majority have had good luck.

One thing to remember when haveing the re-flash done is to instruct the service rep to close all the windows on his scan tool after the installation and then reopen and turn the high idle setting on, as it is programed in the ECM in the off mode by default.

Barnstromer,

You should have the software already in your PCM of your '01. You may only need someone to access and "enable" the feature.

My truck has it enabled and its a neat feature but I still have my solenoid installed because if I use the block heater the PCM won't idle up as engine temp must too warm.
