Sure as heck does not do any good twisted sideways then it is a restriction sure. Air flow at idle and airflow at wot loaded 40psi is a big difference. I think it is there for noise reduction. It is probably a restriction at the upper end. Keeping the flow laminar makes up for some of the restriction. They off set each other. I believe that is why no one could find much before and after difference on the dyno. The more piping and elbows ect if front of the turbo the worse it is depending on how it's sized. Bigger is better out front. Less friction in plastic then metal. I am not sure what max cfm is. I will have to put the thinking cap on.
