I currently have a pulling dual disk (no springs) installed. I have to take the transmission out soon to replace 4th gear (It failed after 2000 miles, the toothed portion for the shift coupler sheered off the gear under medium load!) so i'm considering changing clutches.

Here are my factors to consider:

- current clutch is not wore out

- I have never pulled in the 2. 5 years of owning the truck

- I usually am not towing, but don't exceed a 20' steel enclosed trailer with 3 snowmobiles, or a car trailer with a car.

- are springed clutches better for the trans?

- shifting into first and reverse is hard (i heard someone say the clutch could be at fault)

- current boost is 25. (I will probably bump it to 35)

Reasons why I think I should switch clutches:

- drivability

- I want less grab and easier shifting

- better for the transmission to have less aggressive clutch?

I called south bend, and they recommended the CON OFE. That's what I thought would be the right one for me. I asked if it could handle 50psi, if I ever were to open the truck all the way up again. He said NO, I should consider the street DD ($200 more) If I want that.

I am pondering the DD, but if I never go past 35psi, then is it a waste? And will drivability be worse with the street DD?

Also, I would likely keep my current DD. so, If I really wanted to truck pull, I could throw it in. BUT, if I were to sell it, what would it be worth? considering that the purchaser should spend $800 to get new disks and hubs? I think the whole thing was $1700 new.

Could the street DD handle 1 pull every year or two @ 50psi?

Any advice is appreciated.

I would look at the street DD hearing good things and driving manners. I had a OFE and it didnt hold my power I would slip in 3rd 4th and 5th really easy. I replaced with there FE and that was rated at 550hp but I can slip this one also. this is more grabby then the OFE. the OFE to me felt just the same as stock. with your mods and wanting to just tow. I would do a street DD.

I will be going that route here soon.
