Should TDR Have a Political Forum?

Which July 4th will you watch?

Ah yes...the days of Mr. Barlow and CF jousting. I suspect there was more humor than anger as they were firing mortars at each other.
"Take that you Ol' ***...yeah...well back at you," and so on. Be respectful? Absolutely, but when I see baiting and someone fires back with a response it's just opening the door to a downhill slide and the inevitable complaint. I've always been of the opinion...if you can't take the heat...so on and so forth.
Glad to see Admin has chosen to leave Politics in place for members only.

We don't control (or even know) in advance which ads show up through Google Ad's content matching system and on which pages.

I don't want to see the politics section go, but I know HQ will probably jettison it if I keep turning in completed task lists with too many line items handling Political section related stuff. Grief about the political section or related topics isn't helping the situation - especially so soon after they opted to give it a chance to continue.

So please lay down the battle-ax, okay? :) Because, personally, I'd like to see you stick around as a positive contributing member on the forums.

Thanks!

Also, most likely you're seeing that ad because of the profile Google has built about you. Combined with the page content, and your profile, their algorithm likely thinks it's a good match. Me? I see only injectors and intake ads on this page.

Sorry, guess I should have added a o_O. Just thought it was too funny that popped up!

For me the depressing part is that I've pretty much been involved in the political forum since I joined in 2004. I don't think anything changed in terms of posting or tone; it's always been a little rough & tumble, and respect was given where respect was earned. Likewise, mockery was given, where mockery was earned... with all due respect so to speak. What changed was individual's choosing to take offense and then sniveling about it. The Safe-Space Syndrome that crept into schools is creeping into society, and into political discussion. There are too many "hero's" in this world, and too many "victims" as well. The meaning of words is under attack, and everyone gets a trophy for participating. The country is getting soft.

There's a lot of characters past and present that have a lot of knowledge and humor. RustyJC was another gentleman I miss. Me and a few others started the Mason-Dixon TDR Chapter in Maryland 2000ish. Had lots of fun, had wrenching meets, and of course great food. I got pretty proficient in changing out injectors on 2nd Gen trucks... could swap a set under 3 hours.

I think the overall experience on the TDR is great, and even the folks who get angry and throw insults are pretty good contributors until the discussion has run its course and then it's just insults. I think the social network has taken a lot of courtesy and innocent joking out of conversations. Look how many careers are ruined over a single text... how easy and quick it is to send comments to millions instantly. And y'all may remember spoken words may be forgotten, but written words are forever.

Anyhoo, just enjoying how this thread is going and sharing thoughts about TDR.

Cheers, Ron

I think Harvey moved to WV. I was looking on an Arctic Fox forum and he is (or was) a contributor. His profile on there looks like our Harvey and says WV, formerly Texas. That was a couple of years ago.

Could be...it's been a while but I know he was an active contributor on a Honda Goldwing site.
I was moments away from buying the above until a friend, of a friend, husband and wife were killed on a rural highway. My wife rarely asks me to put the brakes on but this time she left no doubt as to her feelings. Can't complain tho', she tolerates my love for flying.
Sorry folks, didn't mean to hijack your thread.

With all due respect, I feel it's the other way around. Kids only know what they see, and it's on the adults in their lives to demand a level of self discipline and responsibility out of the child. Society has most definitely gotten softer and I see it trickling from the top down, and there are political motives behind much of this that probably isn't appropriate for this discussion.

WireDawg......Good to see your still around and I remember when the last political forum was shut down.Bad Timing,it will not last long......

Hi Hammer! Good to hear from you. How goes it with you? Is the MasonDixon TDR still alive? We sure had a lot of fun with meets, activities and of course cookouts. I personally dont go to the political threads as I'm more interested in the primary purpose of the TDR, but maybe having it will help keep the technical forums clean.

Stay safe and hope to hear from you again.

Cheers, Ron

to clarify my thinking; you're right, but... To my way of thinking, it started with the psycho-babble of the late 60's that can be summed up in the nonsensical notion of "I'm OK, you're OK". The micro counter-culture of that period taught that to their kids, who grew up to teach their kids. If it stopped there it might not have been a problem, but many of those kids got into education as teachers, and that's when I think the seeds of safe-spaces were planted and institutionalized into the school culture. What we're seeing is kids of those kids setting policies in education that legitimize the adolescent behavior of safe-spaces in those who by all rights should have out-grown being a child. As those kids move into college & the workplace, it has crept into mainstream by effectively being supported by liberal enablers in management, lawyers, therapists, and of course, self-appointed "intelligentsia" enabled by social media. In short, it's been a long, gradual process (but I'm thinking this discussion ought to go to The Political Section... which may or may not be a safe space itself).
