I have a question, if you have not seen the thread then please look here. .

https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?238974-mileage

Post #34 will stay for eternity as far as I am concerned so that the OP's comment will stay visible.

Now I have stayed on here for 10 years happily babbling away, cracking jokes, creating saber tooth tire biting rabbits, on occasion even giving some helpful advice. I have learned many things from the fine people that are on this forum and would not change a thing. I consider you all as friends and treat our discussions the same way that I would if we were all face to face tipping a few. Those discussions don't always stay on topic either... ... . :D

But after yesterday I wonder if we drift too much for some folks or if they might need to join a forum with more structure.

The shame of it is that his request for us to go get "square balls" or whatever is that all the information that was posted is now deleted as he wished.

The people that suffer are the silent readers, you know, the ones that don't post for whatever reason but still rely on the TDR for good info. Many people may be waiting to buy a new truck and wonder as I do if DEF will bring the fuel mileage back to pre DPF levels. I thought it was a good discussion even if it was piled into his thread regarding how to get better fuel mileage. But maybe I was wrong to do so.

So from 7:00am yesterday morning until now that thread has had over 350 new views so someone has checked it out.

What do you think, is it better for us all to ramble at times or should we stick to the question at hand and keep it as exciting as reading a tax form?????

Your friend,

Mike. :)

I can understand things getting off topic. It's the way things work.
That being said, If you started the thread and it starts to go off topic, the bring it back on topic WITHOUT BEING A (FORD FORUM BASHER). You know, the guys that bash anyone who says anything bad about the new 6. 7L.

There's no need to wish squareness upon anyone elses cashews.
Way to think inside the box!

I say let it ramble. If you don't like it, go some where else and buy a Ford!

Once in a great while someone, perhaps the OP and on rarer occasions, a thread participant will return the thread to the original subject by just continuing on the original subject. Most of the time a subject, depending on interest, runs hot for a short but varying period then it fades. No one cares.

I don't remember anyone making such a fool of himself by insulting everyone who helpfully replied to his thread as did the one referred to. IMO it is a non-issue and no policy is needed. Just like in face to face commuication the subject of discussion often moves on.

I have no problem with the rambling. Sometimes it leads to good info, other times it's just like a regular discussion that weaves in and out of the original topic. It does, however, bug me when people tell someone (especially a new person) to "just use the search feature". The search feature is fine but unless you know the exact or close to exact text, it doesn't always get you where you're going. Sometimes you get information from a thread that is years old and not up to date so a new perspective on the same subject might be helpful to all of us.

So, who's going to watch the football games tomorrow?

CKaza is very new to this forum and stuck his foot in his mouth. IF he stays on, he will come to appreciate the knowledge on this forum vs. others that have a tendency to push certain agendas and as a result are not as interesting and informative. I like Mwilson's and Hbarlow's comments as they are coming from a technical (Mike) and political (Harvey) perspective and when you learn their personalities, it can be VERY informative. Mike, I hope you would reconsider your position on posting on his posts. He will learn in time that he can learn a LOT from you and you have access to a lot of data that he never will have. Give him a chance to extract his foot anf see how things work here. I have only 100+ posts in app. 9 years because this is my go to forum for interesting banter about cummins trucks and the technical and political problems we face.

I have no problem with allowing the thread to go where it may. As many of you have said, I often learn more from the thread within the thread that develops during the conversation.

Mike, I wouldn't worry in the least about it. I was reading the thread in question as it developed and I feel that your comments didn't warrant the OP's reply. As Harvey said, I think this was an isolated situation and no additional policy is needed.

Ramble- to a fault! Im not too on top of the 4th gen issues or the FAQ page. I wish someone would have nicely provided links to the proper FAQ info (if there is any) along with helpful remarks. I believe things went real bad when it went political and brought all the pains that go along with politics here on the TDR. When do moderators step in around here? We are at the mercy of our government and the regulations. I would really like to see what the 6. 7 could do with the proper tuning and 1992 emissions.

OK. I think I rambled enough... :)

Hey Mike, does CKaza have a brother that posts on this forum too? :-laf. I personally feel you or nobody else did anything wrong on that thread. Thats what makes this forum so great is to see all the different thoughts and experiences of everyone. There will always be someone in a croud that has something to say about ones opinion. You just cant please everyone. :)

From when I originally joined in the mid 90's for a few years and then returned in '03, I've been here for more than 10 years and have asked and answered many posts. The thing about being on the internet for a lot of people is that there can be a sense of anonymity because you are setting at a keyboard and not face to face. For some, this seems to become a license to respond and write things in a more rude manner than they would ever do in person. If you are going to ask a question on any forum, not just the TDR, then you have to be prepared to potentially weed through the answers of the respondent takes the long way around the barn. You may not always agree with the responses you receive, remember opinions are like A-holes, everybody has one and some stink more than others. In the case of the linked thread at the top of this thread, the OP of that thread has basically committed forum suicide, no one is going to pay any attention to him because of his rude behavior.

Well, since I am guilty of getting off topic from time to time, like a lot..... I am gonna say lets continue to ramble:)

Nick

I have probably learned more in the time I have been a member on this forum from rambling in threads then I have by direct answers to an OP's question.

If someone doesn't want a person "jumping in or responding to their thread", they can do 1 of two things: 1) start their own forum with their own $$ and make their own TOS or, 2) they can go pound sand!

Ramble on!

But somewhere in the thread someone should answer OP's questioned somwhere in the post. By the way if want to increase mpg fill tires up to max pressure and put a pillow on your seat!:) (For those that don't lke rough rides).

As for those that tell others to use the "search featrue" they usually don't know or don't remember the solution to the OP's problem!;)

Mike,

Why can't I have a beer on the walk around the barn :)

Some derails are good, and some are bad. Aside from a few personality conflicts rarely do the derails get that far off in this forum. There are other forums where the mods seem to spend most of their time editing and keeping the forum on track. Rambling does lead to deeper discussion and further education. It's not for everyone, but more than likely it's a good thing.

Like the saying goes "Everyone has their thing, and most thing's are stupid". What gets you excited may not get me excited, but there are always subjects that turn the tables.

I can see where the OP is coming from on this. He was asking a question about a topic he had interest in and it became a discussion in Politics between some that know each other from previous topics. At this point the guy that started the thread become alienated from the thread and the conversation. It can be frustrating, but put yourself in his shoes. He has already bought the truck and now it is not doing what he wanted. That is pretty frustrating as well. He lost his composure. It happen to me lots of times. Now I have learned that no matter what I will not be angry when I post.

It's part of my Post responsibly champaign. :-laf

Also telling some one to ge tlost just cause they made a mistake, on a site they had to pay to be a part of isn't very good IMHO. I hope you guys could reconsider your decision to ignore his posts. It people like him that are looking for answers, not giving them.

Just my $0. 02

Ben

The original thread appears to have some posts deleated so it is hard to follow, however the quote of the OP's response (#34) to one or several, is unacceptable and not excusable.....
