Brakes Overheated in Big Horn Mountains

New Tow Vehicle

Carlisle reshoed my gooseneck with Michelin XPS rib upon my request after x3 came apart on one trip. The tires were still within their 2 year warranty. I replaced my LR C tires on my camper trailer with LR D Goodyear Marothons and have had no problems. Now the six Goodyear tires on my truck were replaced twice within two years with less than 15,000 miles. Goodyear reshoed the truck the third time with Maxxis Buckshots and I'm at almost 40,000 miles with no problems. I have noticed on my three smaller trailers the valve stems have been dry rotting in as little as three years. I guess they are useing a cheaper material for I used to never worry about valve stems until they showed cracks or started leaking about 10 years down the road.

today I sit at an rv park waiting for a tire store to open tomorrow. I blew out a tire on I 30 in Arkansas, it was a Carlisle tire . It was the right side front tandumtire along with parts of the sides of the trailer and left several wires hanging on highway. Waited three hours on the side of the road waiting for road service to change the tire. I checked the tire in the early morning and saw no. thing unusual

Just to even up things a little, I've had GY Marathons (205/75-15C) on the 5er since new in 2000. Three trips to Alaska, one to Newfoundland, rough roads all over the continent (can you say Dempster Highway?). I've bent three axles at different times enough to have to replace the axles (due to potholes & such) - the tires kept going.

Tires were always in balance and weight specs and checked often.

I had just one of them blow out (on I-75 south of Dayton after starting out in the morning) in all that time. Got prorated credit on that one.

Not too bad for inexpensive tires.

I *do* replace them before I'd have to, and check often.

Regards to all, DBF
