How should I operate my Bobcat?

New MB Diesel has Aluminum Crankcase

Here's one for you dually owners. (suppose it could apply to all our trucks)

My brother has a 95 DC dually. Was headed from Phoenix down to Tucson last week and had a tire come apart. There was still lots of tread left, just got tired of the constant heat I guess.

When it shredded, one of the pieces flew into the spare tire winch cable and broke the winch setup. the spare dropped and got caught under the truck. This caused it to flip and it threw the rear of the truck up in the air almost 3'. The shredded tire also tore up the fender, the bed, the bed support, the rear bumper, along with some other stuff.

Bottom line - $5500 to get it fixed plus the insurance adjuster said there was some things he couldn't see that may also be damaged.

Keep an eye on those tires!

out of curiosity. . what brand of tire [I know it could happen to any brand] but just curious... and yes the moral of the story pay close attention every time you walk behind the rig... even then ya might not see an issue

Was empty and was cruising 75-80.

Gary, not wanting to bash the tire vendor/manufacturer but the tires have a "big O" in the name. :) They replaced the tire but as in most of the guarranty's, not much covered for consequential damage's.

The spare dissappeared, he never did find it! A Highway

Patrol officer stopped to help and when my brother told him he couldn't find the spare, he went back to look for it. Brother said tha patrolman came back with out it and they finally gave up looking for it. Sure a good thing no one was directly behind when this happened.

Had a "... ... . year" tire do the same on the front of my 95. Not near as much damage as your brothers', but painful still. It dented up my lower rocker panel (below the door). Glad he was not injured, and good luck getting things back to working order.

Shredding tires can really do some damage. I was driving I-90 in Idaho a couple weeks ago when I started seeing clothes all over the interstate. Few miles further up the there was a U-Haul trailer with a shredded tire, it had taken the side of the trailer off.

Talk about "An adventure in moving. "

Which one?

Just curious- You stated that this was on your brother's "dually. " I am assuming it was a rear tire. Was it on the inside or outside? Kinda' thinking from your description that it was the inside?

I lost the tread on two tires on the same side on the fifth wheel and had pretty major damage also. Sure glad it doesn't happen any more often than it does.

I've been lucky and had tires blow but they stayed together. Have seen major damage though from other incidents/trucks. Just a matter of what goes and how fast the truck is going.

I have also been thru the route of getting the back end kicked 4 feet into the air when my spare came loose and jammed and flipped between the receiver hitch and the road. Was only doing about 15 mph (out of a parking lot)---- talk about a tense moment, thought I had broke something coming back down again.

I never did figure that one out  only thing I could figure is somebody tried stealing it and didn't get away with it. The cable was in the stowed position when I went to put the tire back underneath.

fkovalski,

It was the inside rear, I think he said right side.

EMD,

Insurance guy told him he was lucky the truck didn't go out of control. You said it happened at 15 MPH, what would it be like at 75?

If any of you have driven that 100 mi. stretch of I-10 between Tucson and Phoenix and seen the amount of tire debris you'd wonder whats going on. You could walk the whole 100 miles stepping on tire pieces and never touch the ground.

One of those pieces is mine also. Cabover on top of the old 3/4 ton pulling a boat at 75. Only 12,000 miles on BFGoodrich and yes it's quite something how much damage that flying tread can do! The next week found that both front tires had bubbles and the tread was starting to separate. Caught those in time.

I dont even want to think what it would have been like at 75

I dont know if the 75 kicker got kicked straight up or not..... but when mine went it also kicked out to the left side... ... . either way its a scary ride. The truck I had was a '96 2500.

I do love tense moments though... . if it had been a Ford or Chevy... . I would have been saying, SWEEET... . let's do that again. :D with no one around of course.
