I have a 3500 dual rear wheel 4x4 with a 6 speed that is a 2004. 5

On take off I have a shudder in first and second gear that is worse on an incline, at slow speeds. I have had it to the dealer twice and they have checked the injectors and replaced the throttle position sensor. This did not make any difference. Does anyone have any ideas that might help me. thanks Gib.

I just finished a search on "launch shudder" as I have the exact same problem and the exact same truck gib. Lots of good info on this search. Sounds like the center driveshaft bearing. I will try to adjust this weekend.

Try the search--sounds like your dealer is barking up the wrong tree

thanks i will try to search that subject. This is my first time posting on this site so I am just learning.

Gib, I have the exact same truck as yours with the same problem. My dealer put the rear tires at 45 pounds and installed shims on the driveline. Problem gone. Might want to try the tires first. Hope this helps.

Check the U-JOINTS in the rear driveshaft. Mine progressively got worse as you describe (shudder under load at low speed). It was hard to find because the shaft still felt tight and looked good when it first started. I figured it out when it started sqeeking on takeoff (pretty obvious then).

I was amazed that even when the thing would sqeek on takeoff, you could drive down the highway and not know anything was wrong.

Try driving at highway speed for a while, then stop and feel all the ears of the driveline. Mine had one you almost couldn't touch, all others cold. Replaced under warranty - all is smooth as silk now.

my truck was acting the same way and when slowing down it would shudder so bad to were you couldn't hardly slow down. i checked the carrier bearing and nothing there. i was looking at one of the u-joints and noticed a spot by one of the caps that didn't look normal to the other caps . so i tried to move the yoke and it didn't want to move. one of the caps was bone dry and the needle bearings were almost gone. replaced the u-joint and no shudder. i thought bearings would last longer than 50,000 miles. they should all have grease inserts on them

DC came out with a service bulletin today regarding this problem. Shims are required for the driveline. Worked on mine as I had this problem from day one.

Gib, no I do not. I do know for sure though that the bulletin just came out today to my dealer. It is so nice not to have that shutter. I have a steep, paved driveway and my truck did not like it at all. With the shims installed, the shutter is gone. If you have problems getting your dealer to pull the bulletin, let me know and I will contact my dealer to get the number.

I have had this problem for over 20k,Taken to dealer over five times confirmed their is problem but could not fine nothing wrong. even had DC rep with dealer manager, and dealer tech all confirmed that their is a shudder on take off ,Truck was check by several techs and within DC specs. I HOPE THIS NEW SERVICE BULLETIN IS A FIX.

Please post the number.

My ,03 had this shudder as well. I loosened the center bearing and pushed it as far as the bolt hole slop would allow toward the passenger side and it helped a lot. There are two sets of mounts so you can move it over quite a bit. I used a string to confirm drive shaft alignment and found it was in line when pushed over as mentioned above. I did this after putting in two different sets of shims with out any success in reducing the shudder ("I am my own warranty station").

How thick are the shims? My service adviser told me " Could not duplicate" I dont see how you could not notice it. I would like to put the shims in myself if I could get a size or part #.

The tsb# is 03-003-04. It spells out how to check all the drive line angles, also discusses the condition should be worse under heavy acceleration and most likely ar speeds lower than 25mph. There are a number of thicknesses to choose from as dictated by your angles. Don't think anyone will be excited about doing this procedure,D/C thinks that the whole thing is only worth 1/2 hour labor ,testing and repair.

I'm curious, my truck makes a slight noise when I pull the clutch out in 2nd gear. It only occurs from a stop. Were you guys experiencing the same thing? I wouldn't call mine a shudder really.
