Really need some help. I have developed a shudder while driving my truck. If I put it in neutral and coast, the shudder follows me down to a stop. I had it up on jacks and couldnt find anything wrong with the drive shafts or carrier bearing. It seems in may be in the front end mostley. I do have a little play in the ball joints but nothing excessive. Engine runs fine with no codes recorded. With the windows down I can hear a high pitched chatter as tho a gear was rubbing something and the shudder gets worse as I slow help. Any thoughts. Would a wheel bearing in the front end be causing this? Thanks again for any help. Moe

I read on another Dodge Forum that on 4x4's the guy had a problem with the flex plate on his it was cracked and the bolts that held it on were rubbing something. I think it was a 3rd gen truck in his case

Moe,

You have two trucks listed, which one is having the problem?

Coshocton, nice country, Erie Canal with tow barges, right?

Good luck.

Gary

I can feel it all over, and it tends to dissappear as the rpms go up. Coshocton is in the Canal area. The truck in ? is the 2000. I cant feel the shudder if its just sitting running. Only if its moving and then slowing. Thanks guys. In going out and pull the rear shaft anf ill check the flex too.

Dampener good and tight. Totally unable to see converter bolts thru the inspection cover. Converter has been painted a pretty blue so im guessing that the transmission has been rebuilt at one time. Chain slop in transfer case is very slight. Too cold to continue now, hands are numb. Probably have to bite the bullet and take it to a dealer. Moe

It was drive shaft related for me. Only did the shudder on slowing down. It was the center u joint. I don't know if your 2000 has a 2 piece rear drive shaft. I was able to drive 25 more miles home at 70 mph. As soon as I slowed down to get off the freeway all hell broke loose.

Rob, I think you might have hit it right. Carrier bearing might be bad. Pulling the shaft tomorrow. Thanks to all, Moe Will post as soon as I have it checked.

Thanks to all who responerd I have found my problem. U joint behind carrier frozen. Getting them all replaced tonight. Been a member for about 12 years now, what a great site. Moe
