I know this has been discussed. I'm talking about towing our 5ver up a steep grade with stops for road work. When taking off from a dead stop, and when the trans shifts to second or 3rd gear with rpms under 1400 the trucK SHUDDERS. SNOKING WAS TALKING ABOUT DRIVE shaft angles. However, the owners Manuel discusses "TORQUE CONVERTOR SLIPPAGE". Transmission temp went from 165 to 178....I'm thinking the tow rating of 16660 is overly optimistic with a numerically low 3:42 rear axle... I don't think this happens with a 4:10 axle. Anybody with 4:10s have this shudder?. Thanks.. I know smoking mentioned drive shaft, however, I'm concerned about torque converter.

It was already in 1st,,,,,,then it would shift into second and shudder again... Maybe if I keep it in first...

If you were to destroy your Aisin, or if it were to self destruct, that would be a first. Unless it is shaking your innerds too much, i wouldn't worry about it. I know my wife would tell me to return the truck if it was shifting rough. Just like she backhands me if i let shift rough or let the clutch out too fast with the G56.

I had an 04.5 with the nv-5600.. Towing over 100,000 miles with original clutch. Trailer is 12200 empty. So I'm figuring 13500 loaded, and even then that's optimistic. The road we were on was very steep.maybe even steeper than 8 %.. Hiway 299 from Redding to Arcata...

We used to call that stretch west of Redding the transmission killer because the turns were so tight and the grade so steep the trans (4xRE) would never lock up and would self destruct once it got well into 300 degrees. If your trans never got past 180 it had to be locked up the majority of the time. I think they were straightening some of the curves out so that probably helped. Your trans temp just proves what a bad *** trans the Aisin is.

So far towing a combined load of 32,500# with Aisin/4.10's I have experienced zero launch shudder. Yes I have taken off on some fairly steep grades. Just don't hammer it! Ease into until the load gets rolling then drop the pedal.

I do the same with my 68RFE and 3:42's. It's only happened once or twice so I take it easy at the start then drive like I stole it!

I do not have a carrier bearing. This is a one piece drive shaft. I'm still thinking torque converter slippage.

" I'm still thinking torque converter slippage." No way, especially with an Aisin. I wonder if rear air ride has something to do with mine not having it. I would say it has to do with the springs flexing and not low enough gearing???
