Drove Mom's 99 auto 4x4 -38k on it again yesterday. The shudder at takeoff seems to be worse. It only does it in low and will do it when "1" is selected- test per service manual.

Been reading about engine shudders. Don't think that is what this is. Can't duplicate it at any other speed/gear.

Could be driveshaft I suppose.

What actually causes an automatic transmission to shudder? I'm a gearboxhead. It is worse after everything warms up. Linear with throttle position.

I've asked about this before but only got:confused:.

Shuddering

Wade, just a thought, but I've experienced torque converter vibes that sound similar to what your describing. They're sneaky devices that conceal lots of symptoms, ,driving you crazy looking for a bear , ,and the rabbit is eating your lunch. Do ya have a tranni man that you trust?

Not yet.

When I get the shop built I'll pull it out and poke around on it.

I just figgerd there'd be more experience on the subject around here.

I had the shudder

before I had the DTT upgrades done. It didn't happen all the time mostly when towing my travel trl. If I got into it a little I would get a slight shudder nothing serious. I thought it was kind of a warning to do something with the auto. I was running the EZ at the time now with the transmission upgrades no more shudder.

LOL RichB:)

We'll argue which transmission is better until the thread gets shut down, but nobody really knows how a transmission works. Makes sense.
