About half the time when i shut off my truck it shuts off normal. but the other half of the time it stays running. we have adjusted the fuel solenoid as far as we could and it helps for a couple shut offs, then it returns to half and half shutdown. whats going on?

It could be the relay but do this first to eliminate the solenoid.

Did you check the rubber boot at the bottom? Is it torn, cracked, etc. ?

Try taking it off and do a good cleaning and lubing it and reinstalling. Make sure it is properly adjusted to specs.

When you turn off the key and it still runs, then check to see if there is any voltage at the solenoid. Should be zero volts with key off. If you have voltage, then switch the relays, located on firewall.

If you have done all the above and the problem persists, the likely problem is then the ignition switch and/or wiring.

crabman :)

no i don't belive there is any crud on there. so you know im the one who worked on the truck and adjusted the solenoid i don't remember any dirt the boot seemed to be tear free. as mentioned i adjusted it all the way out and it worked well for a few days but i guess its back now. when it stays running though its not really running its shutting down it just takes a long time instead of a nice crisp shut off it sounds like its lugging down and slowly drops to the point where it finaly shuts off so theres really no time to check for voltage. though we will try switching the relays and see what that does.

The relay has nothing to do with the hold up coil side it is activated by ignition switch.

If the relay is keeping the pull up coil activated it should burn the coil out.

I would check ignition switch/wiring/connectors.

ok well i pulled the plug while it was running and it shut off like it should nice clean and quick so im thinking i need to look where missouri mule is saying to look. so anyone have any ideas as to where to start what wires to probe

I was having some starting problems with my 94 and thought it was the solenoid. Lifting it manually worked for a bit, but then shutting down was inconsistent. It seemed to be the linkage below the solenoid-- Just rusty and stiff enough to not move freely.
