A friend has a '94 175hp (5 speed)with 105000 mi. He is gitting alot of smoke on cold starts and we think he might have a bad injector. He also wants more power, I'm thinking 215hp injectors, TST cam plate, and gauges. Any recomendations on what plate would work well with the 215's. Any thing else we should check for the smoke problem? We already checked the grid heater and controller they seem fine.

entry doesn't give alot of informaion
about the engine. Has the P7100 pump
ever been checked or calibrated?

As far as modifications to the truck,
I would recommend starting wih a good
set of gauges, with at least a pyrometer
and boost gauge. I started with a TST
#6 plate (250 H. P. /635 Torque) which
will give you alot more power than stock.
If you have an automatic transmission,
you need to make "upgrades" to that also,
at least a shift kit of some kind.

John is *almost* right, since it's a 5 speed, use the #11 or #12 plate. Smoke is a sign of being rich... have a look-see at the air cleaner as well... have you removed that stupid little thingy between the airbox and fender yet? The cold weather certainly makes it different as well... I agree with John.

Since it's a 175 hp engine, the #8 = 230 hp, #6 = 250 hp. Strongest plate is the #4 for that engine. The 10, 11, and 12 are for the 215 hp engine.
Any of the plates work well with 215s but they are expensive new. Used ones and low mileage, cleaned and balanced ones are available usually. The 370 marine injectors cost more but are very effective. Check the old thread on 175 hp Ram Roars, 372 hp!
