Well I just spent $400 on Lucerix mirrors. Trailer Life did a big article on how large the viewing area is (very good, huge compared to factory). I had slipped on the add-on mirrors in the past when pulling the 5er, and wanted something more permanent that didn't giggle in the wind. Enter Lucerix.

The install went easy, with minimal problems, particularly since I purchased the trim tool. Went out for the first ride, going around 55mph and then on up to 70mph. The driver's side had some vibration, but the passenger was horrible. I decided to give it a real try on a trip to Wyoming, about 1,000 miles the following weekend. Whoa... . it was terrible, the passenger mirror giggled the whole way so bad I couldn't see out of it, and actually dropped down to the lowest setting (I purchased the full electric/heated model). Needless to say, I called Lucerix and asked for a replacement... to their credit they complied and sent a new passenger unit out and I received in about a week. Re-install, and subsequent field trip showed the unit was much better. I took it on a recent trip again, another 400 miles, and real conditions showed the mirror wobbles on the side that the wind is blowing on. I never noticed this problem on the factory mirrors.

My question is... has anyone had better luck with these mirrors? Have you had better luck with other types of mirrors?

Thanks in advance for any info.

We use the power adjustable, heated, electrically extendable and retractable PowerVisions. These mirrors use a steel stamping inside the door through which the mirrors bolt up. These steel reinforcement members definitely stiffen up the mounting area in the doors. I notice no vibration with the mirrors retracted and only minor vibration over the most severe bumps with the mirrors extended - a result of the severe cantilever effect when these heavy mirrors are extended another 4-6" or so.

Do those Lucerix mirrors come with the stamped braces like Rusty is talking about? The trailer tow mirror kit from Dodge has them as well-and they do stiffen up the mounting area quite a bit. Somewhere in my collection of stuff I may still have the Mopar directions-I know they had part #'s for the braces separately. Someplace maybe to start anyways.

PS I get a little vibration in the side opposite the wind courtesy of my bug deflector-not bad though... ... .

I have a used the PowerVision mirrors for 1 year plus and am totally satisfied. Very minor vibration when extended and much more satisfactory than the factory mirrors with the clip on's that I had used in the past.

I've got the Lucerix's on mine... . and they don't vibrate at all.

I had shipping damage to resolve, and when talking with Lucerix, they said to make SURE the 3 mounting bolts got re-torqued 3 times when mounting.

Seems the mirror mount plate has to 'form in' to the door panel.

I also have the Powervision mirrors and the jiggle is very minor at 70mph when extended and none when retracted and the power extend feature is wonderful.

I installed a set of the CIPA mirrors which are the same, or similar. My CIPA mirrors had a plate that fit on the inside that the bolts snugged down on. The instructions called for 18 (I think) inch pounds of torque. I own a small-scale 1/4 inch drive torque wrench, and used it to set the bolts. 18 inch pounds is a lot tighter than my intuition says that it should be. Also, the torque of one bolt affected the others, so it took several rotations to get all to the correct setting.

Mine don't vibrate, except for one particular RPM at idle. At that, it's minor. Perhaps torque too loose or too tight might contribute.
