My better half, says that I need some steps on my toy; so that she can get in. I would like to have the round tube type; but, want them to have a cover that extends under the bottom edge of the body, to keep mud off of them. Ranch Hand used to make some, but they no longer do. I found a company in Florida, that makes some like them, but I cannot find the name of this company. If anyone has the name of it, or some suggestions... I would like to hear them. :p This only adds to the must have list. :-laf 'Cuz we just gotta play with our toys. Oo. Oo. Oo. Thanks

BMatlock,

While looking for nerf bars my research found that there is generally 4 types for the Dodges: simple nerf bars (tube style, plastic running boards, old school running boards, and custom. Because I take mine off road, I went with custom.

Something to think about is to get some standard nerf bars and make your own plate to go from the body to the bar. I wouldn't think that would be too hard (famous last words). ;)

If you go custom, do your homework. I had many estimates in the $1500 range! I'm getting some bomb-proof one fabricated at Ft. Collins 4x4 for $500. :D

Don't settle for ok stuff. They cost too much to not REALLY like them.

P. S. Where do you go in Colorado? (Send me an e-mail)

Browns Welding makes em. 1-800-625-8712.

Here's a pic of mine, is this what your talking about? You can also get them with diamond plate instead of expanded metal.

I had the tubes and replaced them with cab-length running boards. The truck (and step area) stays cleaner now. Wish I had gone that way from the start.

Full length runnig boards

I agree on full length running boards, but if you are in snow they act as a set of skis. Can get stuck very easily!!

When all was said and done, they were just over $500. I'm very happy with them. They sit about 1" below the rocker panels and then have a piece that goes out from there like standard nerf bars. The whole thing is welded to the frame. I know I didn't give a very good discription. I'd put in a picture, but I'm technologically challenged. :(

Have you ever been stuck in the mud? It would be almost impossible to get a jack under the side in the mud if you have full length running boards. I use the single steps because of that. A Blazer I bought had running boards and I took them off, fortunately. I later got cross wise when turning around on an old logging road during heavy rains. The logging trucks left ruts so big that my front and rear wheels were spinning free, the front axle in one rut, the rear axle suspended over the other.

I had my floor jack I always carry, jacked up the sides to fill the ruts under the tires with logs. After about 1 1/2 hours I drove out. Never would have made it with running boards.

Dodge makes a nice set of running boards. They are aluminum with vinyl over top. This is the second set of them. I had them on my old truck then bought them for my new one. They don't stick out real far. I will buy them again for my next new truck. List price was $320 paid $288. Jeff:) :D

what did you pay for these? thanks. scott.

I paid just under $400 for the pair. My truck has never seen the off-road or snow for that fact. If it snows this far south, I'm moving to Mexico:D .

As Itold another member, before you install them, you'll need to have them coated with Line-X or something like that as they take a real beating from the regular road debris. THe factory paint just can't handle it.
