Bend, oregon gods country?

Highway 14A??? Wyoming?? Granite Pass maybe? If it was I've been there. My old 6. 2 Cheby could only pull that pass at 20mph in 2nd gear... (At Max Gross) I thought it was going to blow up!

WyoJim,

That is a great drive! We drove it mid-October, 2000 going from Yellowstone to Devils Tower. We didn't tow anything, but due to the blizard earlier in the week had over 1000# of sand bags plus the usual vacation stuff crammed under the tanneau cover (probably over 1500# total). I had just installed the #11 plate, EGT/Boost gauge, etc. , and had no problem pulling the hills in 5th gear. Only time we slowed down was when we got behind a 18 wheeler doing about 20 and having temp. problems. Talked to him on CB. He let us know when it was clear to pass, had no problem accelerating back up to cruise.

That is a beautiful drive, I'd reccommend it to anyone (with a CTD!!!)

Ben on a family vacation across that strip of roadway. It was a 83 chevy full size van. we turned off the AC, but it did make it. the auto died a uear later on the next vacation around Mobiel, AL.

I lived in Cody for 6 years and made this run quite often. The top of the mountains there is quite a site and that is a pretty good grade. I live just north of the Big Horns now so we still get to make the trip every now and then.

Going over that 7% grade to Sheridan today. Going to take my wifes car. Don't want to get my truck all slopped up with the snow on the top.

Steve... . That little dot labeled "Shell" is where I live. Do you live on the I-90 side or the Bridger MT side.

Jff24Gordn... Brings back some memories don't it.

Mr. Brewski... Your old 6. 2 must have been tired. . The vehicle you have now would love it.

GSchlegel... Ah the Devils Tower. . with people stuck on the side of it, prairie dogs at the base and Homemade pie just outside the entrance. Worth a regular visit.

WyoJim - It was very tired... When I got home, I rebuilt the thing and put a Banks Sidewinder Turbo on it. Even with the Sidewinder, that 6. 2 wouldnt even come close to a stock ISB. Of course I didnt replace the pump, but I did tweak it. I think it is shot too... I guess I should update my signature. I bought the dang thing back...

14A

Unfortunately, it replaced a very exciting section of road which was switchbacks all the way to the base of bald Mtn (If I remember it's name correctly (it has a radar facility on it)).

Locals who pulled camper trailers from the Big Horn basin affectionately called it the "Oh My God" highway, as it easily would overwork a 1/2 ton with too much trlr on the way down.

It's a small (TDR) world!

Good post WyoJim!

We were this close!

My wife and I came accross 90 to 16 and spent the night in Thermopolis in July heading to CA.

You guys live in one of the most beautiful parts of the word!

Year after next we are thinking of renting a 5er and spending a week out there.
