Signature Length and why so short

I did some searches, I only came up with very old (2002 or so) discussion on why signature length was not longer. I understand that 20 years ago, storage space was at a premium, but in these days and times, hopefully that has expanded many times over. This is 2024, not 2004!

I'm not talking about adding pics, graphics, etc, just simple text. Most people would like to list the major features of their truck, and in my case, at least include my travel trailer also.

This forum has what I think is the most limited signature (in number of characters allowed) of any forum I have ever been on.

On the phone which is my primary use in normal Portrait mode there are no signatures, I often forget for months, maybe years at a time there are signatures.

Turn to Lanscape and it's a whole new site.

Use the computer and it's really different.

For TDR magazine subscribers, the limit is set at 300 characters. For non-subscribers, it's set at 100.

Yes, storage has come a long way, but these days 70% of our visitors are using tablets and mobile devices and the percentage keeps growing. Screen space is at a premium on tablets and foldouts, and by the time resolution gets to phone size we hide signatures completely.

There is a truck profile field with room for 1000 characters. Users can click your name in your posts, then click profile and its in the information tab. You can edit this by clicking your user name at the top of the page, then clicking person details. Scroll down to Truck Profile.

Thank You very much. I'll look into the truck profile. I probably fall into the "old geezer" category at 69 yo and have been using desktops since DOS days of the late '80's and laptops since Win 7 over ten years ago. Yes, I use the phone, but really despise doing anything on it if I don't have to.

I also will consider a subscription.
